I decapped the 83 rounds of 7.62x54r I fired during the recent match.
During the match, I noticed a few rounds were a bit harder to close the bolt on, so I measured all 83 rounds and found that the vast majority were just under 2.00"; like 1.998 or so.
5 rounds were over 2.000, 3 of them at about 2.002".
2 rounds pieces were 2.013 (!)
This is a batch of 98 pieces that I prepped for this particular rifle. Length trimmed, neck turned to . 010", weight sorted, primer pocket done, flash holes reamed, etc etc.
I have no idea how 2 pieces can stretch that much, and not the rest. Especially considering that after an initial FL sizing, they have been neck-sized only.
However, I set up the Forster and trimmed 5 pieces back to length, after neck-sizing those 5 first.
Still a mystery.
