What's your favorite caliber?

For handguns, in order:

• .22LR
• .38 Special
• .45 Colt
• .357 Magnum
• .380 ACP

For me, .22LR is king since I am mostly a recreational shooter. For all the usual reasons.
I love .38 Special and how it punches above it's weight for SD but remains mild. My 1st gun.
I like .45 Colt, like a beefier version of 38 Spl. Low pressure, mild (to wild). Plus the history.
.357 Magnum is powerful and versatile. And loud. Certainly enough horsepower for where I live.
.380 is mild and can be fun to shoot, but expensive for what it is and not really woods-capable IMO.


I own exactly one 9mm and may add another someday.
Ubiquitous, cheap, controllable, blah blah blah.
But you asked about favorites...

Interested to hear from other folks on their favorite.
As for me, it's tough to put them in order of preference as each has it's own niche.
Based on what I shoot the most:
1. .22 long rifle
2. 45 ACP
3. .357 Special/ Mag.
4. .45 Colt.
5. 44 Special/ Mag.
6. 38 Super
7. 10mm
8. 9mm
9. 380ACP
Wow that was really tough and subject to change at any moment.
Also made me realize how many calibers I've been missing out on.

My favorite caliber is 357 magnum.
With that said. I'd add these as my follow up favorite calibers I own and shoot in descending order:
44 Special
22 WMR
9mm
44 magnum
22 lr
38 Special

I enjoy shooting .22lr and .22WMR, but when I go to the range, I mainly shoot my carry guns. 9mm has always been my favorite, but these days it's .380, by necessity.

I was going to shoot my Colt Mustang yesterday but they wanted $43 dollars for a box of 50 and I don't reload 380.

22LR and 9 Luger, I moved to one caliber for all my guns and rifles, except 22LR. Really convenient, don't have to bother to shop for different calibers.

My favorites are the 9m.m. which I carry both on duty and off and probably shoot the most of.
Next would be the .38 Special. The combination of moderate recoil in a 2 pound revolver and not having to chase cases is just to hard to resist.

My favorite center fire is 30-30. My dad gave me a Win Model 94 when I turned 14. That was 54 years ago and I still have it. My neighbor has a Contender with a 30-30 barrel so I guess it’s a handgun round as well. I shot it once but told him next time to just hit my hand with a hammer. Same result.
