"Okay, here is the situation; you run into a gunshop during a riot or SHTF situation and you need a semi-auto pistol right now!"

This one :D

From my experience:

1st HK USP .45 w/12 rnd clips (never jammed)
2nd Ruger P95 w/15 rnd clips (never jammed)
3rd Beretta 92F w/15 rnd clips (had a jam twice)

Mind you, several thousand rounds have been sent
through each of the above.

......other than that, whatever I can lay my hands on.

If available, I would grab one that I am familiar with/have/use:

1st. HK USP in .45 :D

2nd. SIG 220 (or 226 in 9mm) :D

3rd. S&W 1911

4th. Springy XD in 9mm :D

...Okay, if those aren't available, a Gluck. I mean Glick. Er...Glockenspiel

I'm with M2 on this one. Bigger is better. Hard to ccw with a drum mag though.

BHP/Sig 226 or 220/HK USP/Glock 17 or 21/Colt Government Model

And you realize... you should clean it before you use it right?

I'd hope I've already got what I need on my hip rather than resorting to looting.

IIRC, SHTF means s*** hits the fan, usually in a TEOTWAWKI senario, so best is to grab a HK USP, or a SIG. I wish I had a CCW or a CHL in CA, but tough luck I can only EDC a BM outside the house. Sucks, in CA no EBR, or SBR, though I'd also love a MBR such as a AK or AR.
ROTFLMAO. (What is TEOTWAWKI? I don't get that one. I'll hide my geek head in shame, having admitted that.)

+1 on the Teutonic Trinity of Sig/HK/Gl*ck. That's the order I'd grab them in, based more on ergonomics than anything else. As much as I dislike those silly Austrian plastic guns, I'll admit that they're unlikely to fail in the worst of circumstances.

Of course, if the excrement REALLY hits the rotating apparatus, then perhaps a good AK or tactical nuke.

What is TEOTWAWKI?

The End Of The World As We Know It.

Also, the only pistols I've dealt with that are rock-solid reliable out of the box are Glocks.

I'd take an HK or Sig if they were out of Glocks, but the Glocks fit my hand perfectly, I know the (very simple) controls inside and out, know how to effectively and quickly field/detail strip it, and so forth. I know very little about the actual guts of the Sig/HK guns, but would quickly learn. However, in a SHTF scenario, I wouldn't have time to learn, so I'd go right for the Glock.

That said, if S were to ever HTF, I'd either grab my M1 Garand + Glock + ammo for both, or my Kel-Tec SU-16B + Glock + ammo for both. Both have been very reliable, both are balanced right for me, both are very accurate (Kel-Tec has a red dot sight on it), etc. I have a shotgun, SKS, and a few other long guns as well, but the M1 or Kel-Tec with a Glock are what I'd carry if I had a choice.

12 gauge shotgun with all the larger size buckshot I could buy. Hopefully working the action will be all the bad guy needs to give up... ahh yes, that world famous sound... chuck chuck!

If it must be a pistol, then there are plenty to choose from.. sig, glock, ruger... I'd take whatever has been proven reliable by people I've dealt with over time... pull the trigger, it goes bang.

I have a ruger p95, very reliable gun, but there are plenty others that are reliable, as well.

Great responses so far. Lots of Glocks, H&Ks, SIGs, Berettas and Rugers. Can't blaim anyone for those picks. :D All great guns with the exception of the Ruger, it is a very good gun and one of the most reliable but it is hard to call a Ruger "great". :neener:

Here are my first three choices
1. Beretta 92 series

2. Ruger P-95 but any centerfire Ruger will do.

3. S&W auto, any except the 1911 and SIGMA and SW99. Pretty much any of the 3rd gen S&Ws will do.

These are what I consider the most reliable lines of semi-auto pistols based on my experience. I have never seen any of these jam that was not ammo related or due to excessive wear. I think any of these new guns would be more than likely to function.

SIGs, Glocks and CZs I have seen jam for unknown reasons and they did it during and after break-in. I am not saying they are not reliable but just from what I have seen, the three I chose would be my top picks.

After exhaustive searching, I think I found my defensive weapon of choice for defending the perimeter...

I am probably going to take some flak for this, but I would grab a CZ52.

The two that I have are disturbingly accurate, have yet to fail in any way, penetrate similar to a rifle, and just plain pack a great wallop.

What can I say? The 7.62X25 Tokarev is one nasty round. The guns I have that fire that round go bang every time and I am accurate with them. So I guess I am a bit biased. And oh yeah, I own several 1911 variants but I would STILL grab the CZ52!

I would choose what I am familar with!!

First choice; Sig P229 in 40 S&W.
Second; CZ 75 PCR in 9mm.
Third; S&W 6906 in 9 mm.

I agree with the t-shirt from my local gun store...

Colts and Kimbers are what you show your friends.

Glocks are what you show your enemies. :p

If I was limited to NIB pistols, I would look for a Colt 1991 Government Model, Baer Thunder Ranch, or an S&W M945. In my experience, these models work out of the box, are chambered in a very common round, are easy to shoot well, and fit my small hands.

1st: I'd grab a .357 revolver (of course, I already have a couple of these ;) ). . If only autos were available, then I'd grab:

1. Glock.
2. Sig.
3. 1911's, if made by a reputable company.
4. Hi-powers, " " " " " " .
5. CZ 75/85/P01's.
6. XD's.

There are other good guns, but those are the first thing I'd grab.
Like other folks said, I'd also pick a reliable scattergun like an 870.

Dare I mention the Bulgarian Makarov?

It'll be already broken in. Hopefully the dealer will have degreased it.

Who owns only one unreliable gun, I haven't had the heart to trade it off. :cuss:
