What new gun would you trust with your life?

glocks:

disputable ergonomics and handle (IMO) but accurate and quite functional. I'd trust one to go "bang" every time. Hi cap OEM mags are great too.

Never been a glock guy (even after shooting my dad's g17 and g20). poor handle of recoil IMO.

Glock
H&K
Kimber

but what do i know, i've barely fired anything.... ruger MkII, bolt action .22, and a .22revo...

NOTICE the gun store has already been looted of shotguns and revolvers?

Hmmmm.

I have never bought a gun, new or used that didn't go 'bang' right out of the box (except for cleaning before shooting)

Ruger P-series definitely (not a single malfunction in mine)
GLOCK full and compact models
Government model 1911

Sig P229 in 40 S&W... only gun I've ever had that has never had a failure... never in 17,000 rounds.... and box stock. doesn't get better than that.

Me I'd go 9mm or 45 acp & grab as much ammo as I can carry w/ as many mags as were still available. As for a specific pistol...I'd go HK USP, Beretta 92 or Glock.

You can take as much ammo and mags as you can carry but only one pistol and it has to be a semi-auto. There are looter and dangerous men all around so you need to grab a pistol and go. What do you trust will work with no fluff and buff and no break-in period?

I'd go with what I am familiar with....a Springfield XD, preferably in 9mm with the 5" barrel for the benefit of the longer sight radius and as many 16 round factory mags as I could carry. I don't want to worry if aftermarket mags will function properly in the middle of a gun fight! :what:

Why 9mm instead of .40 or .45GAP you ask?

Additional 9mm ammo is available almost anywhere. Some of the more esoteric rounds might not be as easy to find.

I own two XD's and both have been 100% reliable for 1000's of rounds. This would not be the time to try to learn an unfamiliar gun.

in order of ootb reliability , the following are chosen ...

CZ , ruger , GlockH&KSig ,tanfoglioS&Wbrowning , 1911s ...
NO taurushipointskimbersparahodeduncerossi , you leave those for the looters to risk their lives with ... :neener:

Glock for simplicity and reliability, though I prefer SIGs more as they are more accurate for me and feel better in the hand and look better (can't put custom wood grips on a Glock!)

If I had to grab a semi-auto, not test fire and trust my life to it, I'd grab a Les Baer 1911.

Why are these scenarios are always so stupid?

you run into a gunshop during a riot or SHTF situation and you need a semi-auto pistol right now!
Well first of all I'd grab all the ammo I could possibly carry or drag for the gun I was carrying when I went into the shop.

Then I'd go for an AR or a Shotgun.
Anyone who trys to fight their way through a riot with only a handgun when a long gun is available is a fool.

Mr. Timm beat me to it

I've only had a Makarov fail to fire one time.

It was empty.

A nice E. German, though, if one is available.

NIB? Glock, I guess. I hear they mostly work too.

1) Glock - bang
2) Glock - bang
3) Glock - bang

If they're out of Glocks I'd go with H&K, CZ, Ruger, Sig. I can shoot these OK and would grab the one with the most capacity available.
If only C&R was available, Makarov or a CZ52 would be OK too.

All above choices are .45 or bigger. It is about shot placement but, on average, I could carry more 9mm but would probably have to use more for the same result. I don't have big hands but the G21 fits me fine and has 13+ 1 rounds  so... Please - no caliber flames.

The absolute reliability of a good .357 mag S&W would be hard to pass up but since they're not available...

A nice shotgun with 00 or slugs is always nice in a riot; that's why they call them riot guns. But my first pick would be an AK with 75 round drums; even if you miss, EVERYBODY would be grabbing pavement :D I'm adding a KTR-03S to my collection this year and if it measures up to the publicity, I'd grab this first above all else with a Kobra or Eotech.

Of course, after New Orleans we know that all legal weapons will be confiscated so only the criminals will be armed, but if I ever get caught in the middle of a riot and have to run into a gun store I'll take my chances getting shot as a BG!

This was fun - thanks,

Personal experience would be a Colt 1911. Never had any problems with the 2 variations I've owned. 2nd hand experience would be a Glock. Don't own any, but the one's I've shot performed very well.

"You live by the sword, you die by the sword"

Better make sure your carrying something you will trust, i will never trust a 1911 for more then a range gun, TOO many issues with them, period.
"You show your 1911 to your friends, your Glock to your enemies."

Any Glock in the 3 most common calibers, 9mm, .40, or .45 would suffice as a BUG in any SHTF situation. 357sig, 45gap, etc. will be too hard to find, most LEO's shoot .40's, and .45 and 9mm are everywhere.

Laugh of the day!

You show your 1911 to your friends, your Glock to your enemies.
:neener:

The silly things some people will say.

"I'm not going to fire a $2 million missile at a $10 empty tent and hit a camel in the butt." President Bush

Funny thing is I think the missles were fired the night before his Impeachment trial was set to start. He wanted Lewinsky off the front page soooo bad. Plus he had been forced to sleep on the couch by the bitch while on vacation on Martha's Vineyard so he needed an "emergency" to run back to DC; I think he had a craving for more pizza too.

How many missles were fired? Some say the total for the operation to miss a tent ran the taxpayers around $70 MILLION. How about next time we send in a sniper with a $1 bullet? Yeah, I know, not PC...

As far as a 1911 goes it is a BEAUTIFUL gun and everyone should own at least one. But I wouldn't trust a new one out of the box like I would an ugly Glock or Ruger. I took a part time weekend job at the biggest gun dealer in these parts for a year and could not believe how many of the most expensive 1911s came back for repair or "refund". And most of the people who brought them back knew what they were doing. One guy shot over 600 rounds of four different types of top notch quality ammo and couldn't get it to work - FTE, stove-pipes, etc.

I will say this - most of the problems were either mag related or could have been fixed with a simple "fluff and buff". Once you get these babies tuned and broken in, they are great. I'm looking at getting a Rock Island soon and, when I can afford it, an SA.
