Why I hate my town police.

That makes me so :cuss: angry that I could spit fire. :fire:

This is AMERICA. Owning and carrying a gun is RIGHT. Charging you hundreds of dollars and making you wait for months is intolerable tyranny. A right is free.

Telling me i shouldnt need a gun, and why do i need a gun. Giving me a pamphlet about how youre more likely to shoot a family member with a gun in the house etc etc

That would have pissed me off hardcore.

I can't believe this. :barf:

I'm glad I live in a free state. No BS; if I decide I want a gun one morning, I walk into the gun shop with cash, and walk out with a gun 15 min later.

....and walk out gun 15 min later, or guns, semi auto or not, plus ammo, and no state ban on individual weapons, no ballistic fingerprint required, no background check with CHL, etc.

Just try to apply for a German firearms permit!...
...You just don't know how lucky you are, Billy!

But he ain't in Germany, it's not supposed to be that hard here.

Go west young man, but if you get to the San Andreas Fault you've gone to far.

In my experience, it's not purposeful anti-RKBA attitude... At the risk of getting a lot of people mad at me, I'll say it's kind of a control freak issue at the town level, and most smaller CT towns are like that about everything they have any say in, from zoning to dog licenses. Basically, not naming names, the town folks know no one thinks they're important, so if you need something from them, they like to make you work for it because they get the opportunity so seldom...
(Litchfield county townships ending in "-bury", you know who you are!) Once you get to the state DPS part, it's attitude free and by the book, or was for me, and you never have to deal with the local minibosses again.

Go west young man, but if you get to the San Andreas Fault you've gone to far.

If you get to the California border you've (or more accurately they) have gone too far!:D Unless you miss North and hit OR or WA. For all the Libs we got up here, the gun laws are suprisingly good.

Easily solved by presenting literature from the other viewpoint.

And so the appropriate thing, OH25? Stay quiet and submissive even though the local representative of law is stating bluntly that she/they are going to violate state law? Nah, tell her the facts, then spend the money, get the attorneys and drag them through the mud if they DO violate their own laws. While it's making your own life more difficult it is the only way to make others lives easier in the future. So long as everyone is worried about offending the nice bureaucrat things will never change...unless they get worse.

No, you don't "stay quiet and submissive" but you don't tip your hand either.

NEVER threaten legal action, just DO IT.

The only other option is violent revolution ... I don't see that happening in CT in the next 12 weeks :p

BTK...

One suggestion that might work better than a lawyer. Be very polite.. Be exceedingly polite. Call regularly at variable intervals until you find out when the uber-clerk is on lunch. Call regularly jsut before that time. Once they hit the 8 week mark. Call EVERY day. Keep her form going to lunch. They like to laud authority, but only provided it isn't incovenient for themselves. Also call just before quitting time (or whenever they stop answering the phone). Be very polite. Feel free to discuss relavent town issues at length. Ask for additional info on anything that might be in the persons realm of responsibility. But politely.

As for cops saying why would you need one. well... perhaps ask when they plan to get their response time to under 20 seconds on every single call.

Oddly enough in the people's utopia that is NJ, i've never gotten any anti-gun BS from the people doing the paperwork. They usually are not the ones involved in making it hard. Usually the only political PITA directly involved is the police chief, and the only answer there is to annoy his paper pusher till they start giving him a hard time for not signing off on something that is already done.

Telling me i shouldnt need a gun, and why do i need a gun. Giving me a pamphlet about how youre more likely to shoot a family member with a gun in the house etc etc

So now your tax dollars are being used for political propaganda?!

that would anger me greatly.

Can you imagine the outrage if you went down to register to vote and the government official who handed you the form also gave you a brochure from the Bush campaing?

:fire: :banghead: or :cuss: take your pick

. Owning and carrying a gun is RIGHT.

True, but one thats been steadily eroded and only started the comeback over the past few years.

Look at the success of getting shall issue CCW laws passed, and the fact that the AWB is likely to sunset (though in fairness, the general public probably agrees with the AWB, but also in fairness thats because they've been hoodwinked into believing it bans machine guns).

Things are looking up but there's a long way to go.

We stand alone - Britain, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand are gone.
And a good minority of our citizens would like us to join them, so we must stand fast.

Giving me a pamphlet about how youre more likely to shoot a family member with a gun in the house

Your response: Right, and being a police officer means according to statistics you are more likely to beat your wife and become an alcoholic to deal with your stressful job.

:neener:

:fire: The discussion regarding CCW has occurred and it is the law. That these low-level politbureau wannabes can hold you up is unbelievable.

In UT you fill out the paperwork, get printed (usually at the class), mail it in with a check for $59 to the STATE. In 7 days you get a letter/ID saying you are golden unless you hear otherwise in short order. I guess this keeps the local power-trip dude or "gun fascist" out of your way. :fire:

...she looks at my birth cert. and implies it looks fake because theres not seal on it... i insist there is one but its old and has been in my wallet for years...

My understanding is that it is a very bad idea to carry your birth certificate, because a lost wallet can turn into a world of identity theft. I may be thinking of SS cards, but I'll bet the BC is similar.

Few things in life are as dangerous and frustrating as a little person with a little authourity.

How much did you pay the police? Last i remember it was 35-35-25 and you got 2 checks back when the locals give you your permit, the other two you give to the state police, did you make a donut contribution? Mine was 8 weeks for local and 25min at the State police barricks, no hassels.

A. you used blue ink on your form, re-do it in black *sigh* i do so.

What a moron. Most courts, agencies consider a document signed in blue ink an original. Black ink means it could be a copy. For example, why does the ATF require that I sign IN BLUE my 03 C&R license?

B. your signature is too squiggly, re-do it again so they can see all the letters *sigh* i do so.

Pure harassment. My signature is MY signature and there's usually a place to print or type your name on any document. Pure harassment. :banghead:

C. you forgot to sign this and get it notorized, what? no we dont notorize it here you got to go to town hall and do that... *sigh* i grab all my stuff and go to town hall

How frustrating. I would have been verbally pissed at this point.

D. Come ack from TH with it notorized and signed. Opps she didnt stamp the notorizied section with her stamp, you got to go back and have her stamp it.

In this case the Notary Public was a moron.

Well,

Sir, I am glad I live in Oregon. The CHL process was easy, wrote one check, was dealt with with courtesy and the license came 45 days later.

Karma will get the #*&$#. :cuss:

Once a year I slide into the local County Sheriff's substation, put down a $15.00 check and walk out with a concealed carry perrmit. Takes as long as you want, I usually drink some coffee with the deputy on duty just to be sociable. They do a county/state check for warrants, fill it out and send you on the road. No waiting, no training courses, no permits, ect. But then this is Alabama and the state constitution provides the right to carry and everyone knows we aren't too sophisticated down here.

rk ;)

All I can say is that I'm glad Connecticut got rid of the local requirement for non-resident permits. The people I spoke with over the phone at the state police were polite, pleasant, and unhurried. They've got three more weeks to get me my permit; honestly I'll be a bit surprised if it takes longer than that. They cashed my check within five days of receiving the application.
