If you could change one thing about handgun sales what would it be?

For me it would be manufacturers selling semi-automatic pistols with only one magazine .who in their right mind is going to own a semi-auto with only one mag? they know you've got to go out and buy more so I would make it so that you got at least two. Just my pet gun peeve!:(

Here’s another lofty idea... when the gooberment gets finished with a gun, they sell it to the public rather than destroy it. No other entity will take an item worth $500, pay somebody $25 to destroy it, and sell it for $1 in scrap value. Doesn’t matter if it’s an m1911, m9, m14, m16, or anything else. Sign me up for a Bradley!!!

I dunno. For lots of guns I have 2-3 magazines, and for some I have 10-15 (or in the case of AR's, dozens), but if it's just a one-off curiosity purchase I'm fine with just one magazine. Nothings free - if you want 2-3 mags instead of just one you'll pay for it either when you buy the gun or when you buy extra magazines later, so why not let the consumer decide how many they want? :)

For my part in the question though, I can't think of much in the practice of the sale that I'd change, but I do wish there were a greater attempt at parts compatibility between manufacturers. Obviously some things are going to have to vary between designs but there's lot of stuff like sights, recoil spring assemblies, magazines, etc that don't need to be made proprietary every time a new gun comes out - particularly between manufacturers. There's no reason why the Ruger SR9, Ruger P95, Ruger American, and Ruger Security 9 all take different magazines - that's just stupid.

I’d make it a law no one under 25 could buy one.

Hopefully you're joking. Rights should be expanded, not restricted.

Staying in your end of the pond - I have to agree with the magazine issue. 2 or even three factory mags of quality seems little to ask and I'd pay the bump. ESPECIALLY when the sumbitches have the temerity to ship a brand-new gun with empty mag-slots in the box.

Also, I'd like them all to be test-fired. I don't necessarily need a target with it like a CZ but at least a full magazine of a noted ammunition prior to shipping.

When we started firing our fixed number of rounds - UNINTERUPTED - before boxing. Everyone's lives got better. Expense was a wash as sales went up and valid warranty returns plummeted.

Also - NO DAMN PLASTIC FLEX- HINGES AND ONE PIECE FLEX-LATCHES on the guns' boxes!:cuss: I've a hard time telling what a craptackular decision that one is for me. For cripe's sake, just give me crummy cardboard and styrofoam before those self-destructing *hinges* and latches.

Todd.

I know but this is a post about wishful thinking as in what if?
That may have been the original intent but we're leaning very hard into whining and silliness....much more and this thread won't even make it into the 2nd page.

It doesn't even belong in this subforum, but I'm not going to inflict it on another moderator.

If you want to discuss laws and legality, start a thread in the appropriate subforum...that isn't what we do here. I may even prune some post later tonight when I get some more time

Wow that was more trimming than I expected. The thread went from 25 post to 7

Every post removed either had to do with politics (which we don't do here) or legality (which belongs in Legal)

This subforum is Handguns: Autoloaders if there is continued interest in the OP, keep it restricted to features or packaging of Autoloaders

Get a Silencerco kiosk thing that does all of the paperwork for me. If those still even exist?

No sights on anything. Or just easy to chew off soft plastic Glockish sights. I hate paying for sights twice (or thrice) everytime I purchase a pistol.

I've bought a dozen pistols from you, the least you can do is recognize me as a regular.

Don't get weird when I insist on laser bore sighting a $2000 pistol before buying it.

Since the one-magazine issue was mentioned, I’d like to see a higher level of QC return to handgun sales. Guns with goofy errors or simple to notice and easily rectifiable fit, finish or function flaws should never make it out the doors.

Stay safe.

I'd remove finger grooves from pistols. They're shaped to fit some statistically-average man's hand, but that leaves a lot of people outside the norm whose fingers DON'T fit those pre-cut grooves. As a guy well off the statistical average, with small palms and long pianist fingers, they never do. I would love to see the percentage of people that those grooves really work for.

And I would be willing to pay a good amount extra for pistols that came sighted in straight out of the box, instead of the " ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ adjust it yourself" attitude gun makers have today.

Be able to actually order the exact model & options you want on a handgun, not just "what you see" or "we will be getting in a shipment in XXX days (weeks, months)".

You can do that now.......but its going to cost you plenty and a wait.
"One offs" or specific options desired by the buyer are available on a number of guns. To expect your local gun store to stock every brand, model and option is a bit silly. We aren't talking ladies shoes, but guns with a 5% margin.

If you want it your way with special sauce, Infinity, Ed Brown, Bill Wilson and a host of others await.

Metal or plastic frames could be available for very modern guns.

For variety, I decided to buy a Walther P99 AS, which is a striker-fired DA/SA gun.

Don't mind the plastic frame, but I would have bought a metal version.
For range or random carry guns, part of the appeal of the S&W 908 and 6904 is the metal frames and slides.

So glad that my CZ PCR is all-metal , and my Sig P225 (Non-LEO : the Real 225, German proofmarks on chin).

He's got a bit of a point though. My F250, didn't come with the integrated brake controller. So I paid their tech to pop one in and enable the ecm.

So why can't a pro store not install sights better than little ole me? For anyone. If I can buy the tooling to do my own small collection, why can't the LGS handle that as well. Store guys really need to work on their art.

For all asking for extra mags with the handgun. You do know if included, they will charge you more, so why not just purchase more when you purchase the handgun. Not all of us want more than the standard two mags with a handgun purchase, we already have stacks of them on a shelf cause we own multiple of the same gun. Just saying...

As for what I would like to see changed....allow me to purchase a handgun from an FFL in any US state or at least surrounding states to where I live. (I know, about as likely as the gov't sending me a handgun for Wuhan virus stimulus.)
