Depends.
When the kids were little, we had a mine field of Legos and trip hazards.
The are all kinds of options for home defense and what is suitable is quite often very situational. A gun isn't necessarily going to be either reasonably available or the best option.
If I'm in the kitchen, there's a wide variety of cutlery and heavy pans.
If I'm in the garage, there's a ton of tools and equipment available.
Baseball bat, hammers, hatchet, saws, hoes, glass, machete, etc. I've got all kinds of weapons of opportunity at hand at any given moment or location.
Do I carry a pistol? Almost all the time. Do I have other firearms? Certainly, but they're not necessarily going to be at hand, ready to go like my carry...or the aforementioned weapons of opportunity.
But even so, they're not necessarily going to be my first choice.
