Television or big screen. Who is your favourite screen cop and what is his handgun? I am torn between Barney and his 38 Special Colt Police Positive and Dirty Harry and his S&W 29 in 44 Magnum.

Why Mrs Peel of course!

damn hal she is breaking all four rules at once in that pic.

would be funny if she put a hole in her head :uhoh:

Two come to mind.

First, David Soul, from Starsky & Hutch, and his six inch Colt Python.

Second, Clint Eastwood, from Dirty Harry, and his S&W model 29.

Kojack and his little colt snubby....I love the episode where he tells the bad guy to stop while pointing the gun at him...the BG runs and Kojack gives chase..when he catches the guy he points his gun at him and says"What is this a bagel?"...funny stuff....
I tend to like the cops who still carry revolvers on TV....Scipowitz(NYPD Blue),Lenny(Law and Order),Sully(3rd Watch)I don't know it just seems like these guys can get the job done with the wheelies.....

Ethan Hawke's LAPD Beretta 92FS in Training Day
Keanu's SIG-SAUER P-226 9mm in Point Break (decocker-only, just barely simple enough for keanu)
Takeshi Kitano's WWII M1911A1 (or it's japanese SDF copy the M57-B) in Violent Cop. It perfectly suits his character and look, mercifully i only saw him carry the standard issue SIG P-230 .32acp for a few scenes.

Dirty Harry's Model 29
The 4' Model 29 used by Mel Gibson in Payback
The subby Model 19 used by Douglas in Black Rain.
The Model 28 used by Jack Nicholson in The Border

Dirty Harry, natch!

If my old brain is working, the film was "Sudden Impact" in which he used an Automag .44...........

Another .44 mag

How about the Magnum Arnold used in Red Heat? I think it was a S&W Model 29 just like Harry's but he seemed to get 8 or 10 shots without reloading. This gun looked right on the Governator.

At least we know Clint used his true capacity as an incentive to get felons to surrender. "Do you feel lucky, punk?" This might be the ultimate lottery for a crook.

DOnt forget the backup pieces!

I second John McClain, with Beretta 92FS and a S&W 940 as back-up in Die Hard III!

Sonny Crocket's S&W 645 and Detonics 45 as backup. However in the first episode he used a Sig 220 with a Sig 230 as backup!

OKAY, David Sould and his six inch Python? That's just wrong, very wrong.

There's a comedian in every crowd!!! I also liked the red and white Ford Gran Torino! By the way, the new Starsky & Hutch movie is going to be a comedy.

Hutch will still be using a blued, six inch Colt Python, but Starsky will be using what looks like a Colt Commander instead of a S&W model 59. But the cars look almost exactly like the ones in the tv series.

Nope, Magnum carried a 1911.

Having just done a review of Starsky and Hutch... yeah it's a comedy, its made by the same director that did Old School so it's a lot of slapstick directed at the '70s.

Back then you realize the LAPD only had 4 guys on the SWAT Team and everything happened during the day.. oh and every car, no matter what surface it was on (like dirt roads) made squealing tire sounds. And Glen Larsen owned the universe. And no woman alive on TV owned a bra. Go figure.

But back to basics....

I always liked the fact that Detective Russell on NYPD blue carried a Colt Detective Special, while Andy packs a J-Frame. However I always thought it was a little wierd to see cops armed with a 5 shot 38 taking the lead in an entry.

Didn't McCloud pack an SAA .45?

Hunter packed an HK P9S target model, super cool.

Rico Tubbs packed a sawed off 870... now there was a "talking stick"

But as for my favorite cop...

Nobody beats Dirty Harry. Nobody.
