Omaha - What Went Wrong And Whose Fault Is It?

I agree, except high on the blame list I'd add the gun owner. Let's not pretend like all gun owners are perfect or that all gun owners "get it" because some just don't. This gun owner was irresponsible if a kid stole his rifle so easily. We need to police ourselves within the gun community so that the government doesn't.

It got stolen when he wasnt home and was in Thailand. He could have had the rifle locked in a big tough safe, and the shooter would have had all the time in the world to steal it. It's his own house, he shouldnt have to go be responsible for someone breaking into it when he's not home and using his stuff. Besides, it's not like he couldnt have obtained a rifle from anywhere else.

Some people have asked "How can we tell the difference between the bad guy and the good guy in a mall shooting like this?"

Well, if I saw someone shooting randomly at unarmed people, I think I could safely conclude that he was a bad guy.

OTOH, if I saw two guys in civilian clothes shooting at each other, I think I would just take cover and observe what happens until I could tell which (if either) is the good guy.

Jake? Do you believe in the second ammendment as it was written? The spot where it says "shall not be infringed, except for criminals, youth, and crazy people, and not in a public business"?

Guns can stop criminals. Guns can be used by criminals. Criminals are by name people that do not obey laws. I want them to know that when they pull out a gun they will be facing an armed public.

One news report I heard said this event unfolded in six minutes, from beginning to end. How long would it have taken a person on site, with a firearm to react.

You know, I hardly think responsible gun owners are going to shoot at each other. I know many people have little faith in humanity, but given the ridiculous degree to which most gun owners follow the law and order of protocol, I wouldn't really worry about being shot at by a fellow gun owner. Also, when you see a guy popping off rounds from an AK-47 randomly, I think it's safe to assume, "that's the guy I need to shoot". The guy carefully aiming the handgun, is probably NOT the guy you need to shoot. I'd be more worried about some "hero" cop shooting me.

Obviously, since Ron Paul has no chance of winning, a vote for him is a vote for Hillary. Up until a few weeks ago I said go with Guiliani because he can win and we can work with him. Now that Huckabee is moving forward we really can see a new fresh breath of air. But it still remains to be seen whether he can capture the national scene. Just remember this, any Republican is 30 times better than the worst Democrat if you want to keep your guns.

Running over the same old ground.

TWO CENTS COMING RIGHT UP!

The crossfire argument is just pure bull. Us "People of the Gun" who would CCW and be on the scene will remain few and far between. Even if one was present his mandate for carrying is specifically for self defense and to stay out of harms way if possible. Many have pointed out the legal problems our screwed systems might present him (or her) if she had the cajones to confront or kill the shooter. In each of these cases the violator is the one targeting and shooting anybody he can cover his muzzle with. Even if more than one CCW is on hand I would consider it doubtful they would be firing wildly. Unlike the shooters they probably would not be carrying a lot of ammo to waste. Most cases where a civilian with a gun on hand stopped the creep (that I know of) the scum surrendered with no shots fired OR the civilian filled him full of holes. Is there any reference anywhere citing an armed citizen harming or killing an innocent in a similar situation? For that matter police?

The big problem with guns is the benefits are usually silent. It is the weapons that are not seen and never fired in the hands of the sober citizen that have such a HUGE benefit. In some states home invasion when the occupants are home are RARE. Why? Because the would be bold thief or rapist or murderer has the random uncertainty he might be the one with the toe tag in the morgue. It is real easy to gauge and count the outrages like Omaha and VT that occur but the dampering effect is almost impossible to quantify. Even the truly evil or as some might characterize them ill have the reasoning ability to plan and execute their plans. Yes they pick the places where they will have the most success and chance of glory. If they had the thought their score card would be low and the act would be their final proof of what miserable failures they are would it keep them in their miserable hellholes and out of the schools and malls? MAYBE. It is absurd to that all the antis who are protected under the invisible shield of private gun ownership will never ever acknowledge it. FOOLS.

I have been a fence sitter but I am going to get my permit this month. Just another responsibility I will undertake for myself, my family, and community. All in all I feel totally secure and truthfully would feel silly for carrying but lightning does strike doesn't it?

To answer the question "How do you know which one is the BG?"

Well, in most of these shootings the BG is the one with the rifle, or multiple guns, or the one who is calmly reloading. Hard to confuse that with a CCW.

Of course "the one shooting at random unarmed people" is as already mentioned is another excellent answer.

ok how bout we blame the education system..he obviously couldnt read or comprehend "gun free zone".. we can analyze this to death..there still wont be an answer.. so folks are nuts some are stupid..and some are just stupid nuts.. and heres a thought maybe.he was hired by the gungrabbing idiots to help the liberals campaign.

I would encourage all of you to vote for Ron Paul so that we can find our liberty again.

This should be every gunowners thought process.....fighting for liberty instead of running around in circles wondering what washington will ban next.

Gunners need to focus the energy.
