Hey every one it has been awhile since I got one and talked to yall, but i have been lurking and reading! This year I will be turning 21, and i would like to know what you would want a first handgun purchas? dont get me wrong this wont be my first hand gun but it will be the first one that i actually do the paper work and stuff on my own. I plan on getting ccw asap after the birthday which is still a ways off. this is what I have as far as handguns go: ruger gp-100 6in
ruger sp 101 2.25 in
xd service 40 s&w
ruger single-six in 32 mag
ruger sbh 44 mag
bersa/firestorm 22

so with that already in the safe what would you be looking at? i dont really have an intended purpose for this new handgun other that range work or nightstand duty or well anything... for a price range i should probly keep it under 900 but i might be able to strech that a wee bit. all opinions are welcom and i just trying to get some ideas... thanx in advance for any input! P.S. i am kinda leaning towards an auto of some kind being as how my collection is a little revolver heavy, but another wheel gun might not be bad maybe S&W...

I real handgun.....
Just kidding! I joke I joke
You have a good collection going I must say.
Depending on what you want it for. Since you said your getting your CPL soon maybe a Sig or a USP?

You're short of a 9mm and a .45, how about a 1911?

Or a high-capacity 9mm while the political climate allows?

My pedantic side won't let me let this slide: it's pique, not peak.

Welcome, Delta. There will be a "new thread" button on the upper left when you are at the "Handguns: General Discussion" level, or some other subforum. Look for it when you go back one level after reading this.

This assumes that you are logged in, of course. And don't be bashful about doing a search on topic before starting a new thread. There are a few perennial questions that generate a lot more heat than light.:D

yes i have considerd both the sig 220 and one of the usps... i also realize that i am short a 1911 as well and that most likely needs to be changed, i have never shot a 1911 but depending on brand and modle they have high praises... also looking at some of the cz's... how much do usp go for new? jw

vjarnot thank you for the correction. lol i just didnt know how to spell it the right way so i went with what i knew :neener:

yo momma i have a decent collection of long guns but i have been able to by them on my own since 18 the main reason i am wanting a handgun is its my 21st b day and instead of going and geting trashed i think i will spend my time learning a new weapon and becoming more proficiant with the one i alread have! trust me there are lots and lots of long guns that i desire, but right now for this b day its gonna be a handgun that gets added to the stable!

Times have changed. When I turned 21 I don't remember thinking about handguns at all.

You've already got some pretty good iron (and plastic) there. Do you shoot much? Maybe spend the $900 on ammo and have a blast (pun intended).

EBR.

Need a 9mm or .45, SIG or an H&K are good choices. HOWEVER, I would reccomend adding an EVIL BLACK RIFLE to the stable. Get an AR 15, while you still can.

Well I don't what your wardrobe is like but on some days (especially hot summer days) I find it hard to conceal the bigger guns. You may want to consider a Saturday night special or a j-frame (or I guess an LCR now) so you don't have to always hide the sp 101 or the xd. You probably shouldn't drop all of it on the handgun anyway. You may want to buy enough ammo to grow proficient with your new gun and stock up on holsters for your new and old guns now that you with be legal to carry.

However, this is your money if you go shopping and that usp or 1911 officer's model pops out at you, go for it. Enjoy your birthday, I did the same thing on my 21st b-day a few months back.

With what you have already, since you are thinking about CCW, look into a snub revolver for pocket carry. A S&W 442, or Taurus 605. Chances are you'll find this gun to be a constant companion, as it is so easy to carry. Just make sure you practice diligently with it!

well my b day is not for a another month or so. so i have plent of time to look, test, and reasearch. while making the rounds at the pawn shops i found somthing that i have had in the back of my mind for a while now and that is an older tompson continder with 2 barrels and 2 forarms. one in 223. and another in 22 lr. i dont know if that is what i really need but it was sure a nice firearm and it was well under the 900 budget so lots of cash leftover for ammo and possable and iwb for the sp101... what are yalls opinions on this gun? i am intrigued with handgun hunting and after lots of practice would mostlikley try a bigger caliber and chase some of the deer around here!

P.S. im fairly big kid concealment not really a problem with the sp but it would be nice to get somthing a little smaller for summer time!

If you want to own something truly evil, get yourself one of those Krinkov AK pistols. Thats what im getting when i turn 21, right now my only pistol is a Ruger P-97DC, but im also leaning towards something super lightweight and concealable since here in Vermont we have no ccw laws.:D

Since this sounds like a lark to celebrate your 21st, forget about what might make sense. Just get something you "want".

Since you're looking for suggestions, the things in that price range that would float my boat might be the EBR that Jed suggested, or maybe a used Freedom Arms revolver.

If you're looking at CZ's check out the 75D Compact PCR. You can pick one up in the $550.00 range. It's one of the best values out there, bar none. 14 round 9mm, dead nuts reliable and wicked accurate. It's a good range and carry gun. Then again, I'm an avowed CZ fanatic, I've got 4.
If you're just looking to round out your collection, get a short hi-cap 12 gauge pump like Mossberg 500 or Remington 870.

Yeah i really like the looks of the cz 75. I think i will try to find a place to shoot one soon and see if I like the feel as well. I have though about the pump shot gun, but the shot guns i have now will be ok... for now! im not really a big fan of Glock but thats just because i cant shoot them worth a darn...well at least the g22. i think i may wait until the xdm in 45 comes out and just keep saving and buying ammo as needed till then. I cant wait to be leagal to have a handgun with me
