What are your Gun Goals for 2023?

I would like to do the same. Perhaps some person or company, would give me a decent price and buy in bulk! Just leave me a few that I actually shoot.

A magical gun genie will come and just take them all and leave a pile of cash!:)

If serious, give Durys Guns a call and see what they say. I have heard okay things about them.

I'll add a follow-up to the OP's question:

What are some obstacles that may hold you back from accomplishing your 2023 shooting goals?

As much I enjoy training, competing, and hunting, I probably have it a little too high on my list of priorities to call myself a responsible adult.

Good follow up questions…

My obstacles are like many others…time and resources. And as we move into retirement, I struggle to gain longer perspective. While it seems counterintuitive, it is really what I need to focus on.

What are my real long term plans and objectives at 60? What is realistic?

I don’t have a bunch of kids and grandkids that currently have my zeal for firearms and shooting. As much as I want to pass on a nice assortment of firearms, I doubt they would consider most of it anything but assets to sell.

My grandkids are 2 and 1. I have a few years to wait before serious shooting time can begin. And who’s to say they will want it? So why am I accumulating more than I and my wife realistically need or use?

Then again, I see guns and ammo and certain reloading components as tangible assets. The have value and unless outlawed, will retain some level
of value, unlike clothing or electronics.

And life balance, as DB Cooper eluded to, is important…and I too need to find mine.

Only thing I really think I'm going to do this upcoming year is a couple suppressors. There's a Red Wood Zastava M70 at the LGS that has been catching my eye, but AK's are crazy expensive now, and I'd rather have a suppressor. It'd also be VERY hard to turn down a decent deal on a Beretta M9/92fs or FAL.

I want to build an SBR AR. 12.5" should be fine.
What caliber? I have ones from 11-12.5" in several calibers. My .223/5.56 is perhaps my least favorite. Probably the most fun to shoot are a .450 Bushmaster and suppressed .300 BLK.

One thing I did do to my short .223/5.56s was to put blast diverters on them and I (and most everyone shooting around me) are glad I did.

Actually, not much of anything. I am pleased with the firearms I own now but wonder about one possible addition. The problem is that it might be an "ammo waster" and of relatively expensive ammo of limited use. This attitude is because I have a 10/22 and it isn't as accurate as my bolt-action Marlin. The one I'm considering is the Keltec CMR-30 as I already have the PMR-30 pistol. Knowing how I like to "rapid-fire" the 10/22 and how much more expensive .22 Magnum ammo is now (not to mention the gun itself), I'm not sure I will ever get the CMR.

I need to shoot off all these dozens of boxes of reloads I have piled up which are marked with TEST or NEED CHRONO or something else. Hundreds of rounds Rifle/Shotgun and Handgun. All calibers except Elephant or Pip Squeek is in my collection. Come up with a set recipe for each with best real world velocity and accuracy with good economical Sierra type ammo and be done with this CONSTANT experimenting I'v been up to for the last 45 years. Frankly, things are just to dang expensive to be screwing around any more. I plan on building a certain inventory for each caliber ( so far 17 right now) and replenish as used up. NO MORE WASTE.

Never really start a new year with a goal but if I had to pick one it would be a like new condition Colt Series 70 Government 1911 in 9mm. I have plenty in .45 ACP, one in .38 Super but have always wanted a nice one in 9mm. I figure I have Christmas 2022, an Anniversary Feb. 1st 2023 and a birthday Feb. 7h 2023. My wife has asked about all three and I have said nothing really but if a gun I like and decide I want comes along I'll grab it. That is how everything in the safe came about. Nothing planned and then something comes along that trips my trigger. :)

I have a lil 4x4 closet in the home that I've been renting for 5 years that I turned into a vault and it's way too small and all my valuable gear is way too cramped and stacked up but I'm buying a home and hopefully building a 12x24' addition onto an existing 24x12' home and I'm really hoping that there is enough space for my myself, two daughters and wife and a fully secure vault/room with keycode entry and may double as a man cave/office/......

Edited: 24x12 not 12x12

I'd probably stick with 5.56 for commonality with my other AR. But 300 BO is not totally out of the question. My ultimate goal would be to get a can for it and my AR, so 5.56 makes more sense. Or get a 308 can for my AR308 and a 300 BO...o_O

About the same here. I have all in all 5 AR rifles. Four are AR15 .223 and one AR10 in .308. Never had any real desire to own anything different in my AR types. Pretty cut and dried for me. At my age I just have no great desire to get into another cartridge and start loading for it. :)

You bring-up a good point Steve in PA. I'm probably going-to invest in a P322 early this year so that I can get-in more training time, range time, in 2023. 22LR is not cheap but it's still cheaper than anything else if we want-to have more trigger time this coming year.

Let’s see my goals for 2023.
Maryland WCHP will be approved hopefully
I would like to acquire something in the lever action variety
I would like to maybe acquire something in the cowboy style recover category (maybe a SSA)
I am working on getting into reloading spent this last year shopping around for prices on bullets and powders and primers and am planning to head down to my uncles to use his equipment and get some pointers on it sometime after the holidays are over.
I would like to participate in a high power match (I have never shot competitively before but I think it could be fun)

some things I would like to do eventually but not necessarily in 2023 are upgrade my RIA 1911 to something nicer and get a nice break action 20 gauge.

some stretch goals (maybe if I win the lottery or something) are I would like to start a John Moses Browning collection at some point, but that’s not something I have the funds for currently

I've already started to thin the herd a little. Sold 2 rifles and a shotgun this past month. I can't really sell any pistols, because what I have is already the bare necessities for me. I did sell off my last single-action earlier this year... my Ruger Vaquero .45 Colt... which leaves me with only 4 pistol cartridges to shoot... .22LR, 9mm, .41MAG, and .45ACP.

I've also decided to join an indoor range so I can shoot more. I normally just wait to go to NV (to visit in-laws) to go shooting in the freedom of the open desert, but my shooting skillz are lacking... and I know it. My goal is to shoot twice a month. There is a range that is along my Monday route... it should be a little round peg in a little round hole for me, with NO excuses.

As far as reloading... I'm in the process of emptying all my brass, and then prepping all of it so it's ready to go. A few reasons for this... we may have to move in the next few years, and boxes of components are easier to move than piles of loaded ammunition. As far as components, I have most of what I need... except primers. Assuming things stay the way they are now, and we aren't plunged into another 'unrestful' situation where there is another run on components, I plan on making some judicious primer purchases... if the budget allows. I mentioned I sold my Vaquero... that money went to buy 2 8# kegs of powder. My Savage 99 is headed out the door... that money will be used to secure primers, and maybe some cast rifle bullets.

1. Resume reloading, if supplies become available. (Harharhar)
2. Take some my safe queens to the range. I have several I have NEVER fired.
3. Nothing I really must have, but...
4. May think about thinning the herd. 73, robust health, no heirs, let someone else enjoy them.
5. Get some centerfire shooting in. Having fired nothing but 22 RF for 6-7 years-and it has honed my skills-feel the need for some variety.

Well I must have bought a dozen guns in 2022, so for 2023, maybe just one. Something with a metal frame, hammer, maybe 9mm. CZ75, EAA High Power, . . .
Well, since I just yesterday jumped the gun on my 2023 gun goal in purchasing a used Sig P938, I have realigned my goals:

I have maybe 10 handguns, both revolvers and autos, and a pump shotgun, but no rifles.

I would like to get some kind of rifle but am spooked by tube magazines and potential chain fire, so would gravitate towards a rim fire. Alternately an AR or AKM or some such with a magazine feed might be nice.

Additionally, I still want a double barrel shotgun.

I am not totally off from additional handguns, such as a 44 Special DA/SA that can be carried.

There is nothing wrong with any rifle having a tubular magazine. Just use ammunition suitable for the rifle. Well over 50 years of guns and have yet to see a "chain fire" using the prescribed ammunition for a rifle. Don't let that cause you reason for pause.
