The tests done at the Box Of Truth website say shotguns don't penetrate as much as handguns like the .45 ACP, the 9mm, etc.. And .223 / 5.56 rounds far exceeded either. Their tests seem pretty scientific to me. The .223 round they fired went through 12 pine boards and it kept right on going. None of the buckshot or pistol rounds came close to that.

A common misunderstanding, which we have discussed before in this thread:

Guns!!! Lots of them!!! Can't reveal specifics because the BATF Killer Robots monitor these sights and feed the data into a computer. Oh, and knives too - lots of them, and if they won't take an edge sharp enough to shave with they get sent to the garage for scraping paint and opening oil cans. Mwaaahaa haaahaa!!

I have a little baseball bat, a Kabar full size tanto knife, a 12 ga, a Ruger P89, and my trusty Colt M16 22 30 round mags full of Hollow points. Also we have a few cans of police mace though out the house.

And a 10 pound Chiwawa that barks at dust mites breaking wind, to tip me off 5 minutes before someone gets in my yard.

Right now it's an AK or a PTR-91.

Soon it will be an MSAR E4 with either a Surefire Super Tac or X300 and an Aimpoint

Glock 17 With Full of 124gr Gold Dots

(with a 33rd loaded with Hornady XTP, close by)

Good neighborhood, no criminal associates, clear property sightlines, motion sensor lights, advanced locks, non-wood doors, lights, dog, monitoring and alarm system. If some random VCA wanders onto the property and tries to get in theres an AR of AK or shotgun.

FN Five-seveN / 5.11 Light for Life

(You only need one hand to fire the Five-seveN accurately, and it likes to eat light attachments!)

Depends on where I'm at and what time of day.

My carry pistol, sr9c, is usually on me or near me all day. At night my carry pistol is still usually within easy reach, or I have a shotgun ready to go as well.

I don't feel to hot about using my AR as an HD weapon. Mainly because its freakin loud, and I'd rather not lose something I shelled out a lot of money on if I had to use it.

1) Maverick Model 88 with a 18.5" barrel, loaded with 00 Buck.

2) S&W Model 10 with a 4" barrel, loaded with 125 gr. Hornady XTP.

3) Ruger SR9c with 17 rd. magazine, loaded with 124 gr. Speer Gold Dots.

4) Mag-Lite 4 D cell flashlight.

Next to my bed, my Ruger P95 with 16 rounds. Under the bed on my side ready to with 20 in it is my AR15. On the floor is our two dogs, One Rott/Lab mix and one Akita/Lab mix, both females with a wild desire to protect what is theirs and ours.

I and the wife sleep very well.

Kimber 1911, 870 12ga, or AK47 with the stock folded, depending on whichever happens to be nearest when something goes down.

whats more scary then a man wielding a chainsaw??:what:

My wife with a gun! :what:

Joking aside, I have a Remington 11-87 Youth (20ga.) loaded with #3 Buck. I wanted something that was easy enough for my wife to handle (5' foot nothing and a 110lbs) yet I'm still able to use.

A wealth of choices. I would probably pick a 1911, since it's handy. Or a Rem. 870 Police. The FA M3 Greasegun would be overkill. But seriously, folks, I just don't feel that threatened. I live in a peaceful area and we have a local police force that can be here within 3 minutes. For home defense, in this situation, a cell phone and good locks are more important than a gun. I worry more about a break-in when I'm not home. (And, ironically, the biggest motive for such a break-in would be the guns themselves.)

120 # GSD in the yard, SR9 on the hip, 357 in the headboard of the bed. The PD is at the best at least 30 min. away so the people in this area tend to all be well armed and the BG's know it.
