Glock classifies the G19 a "First -Time Buyer" gun. Do they mean first time gun buyer or first time Glock buyer?

I'm a big Glock advocate.

Get a Glock. They're good enough at most things you might could want to do with a gun.

Doesn't quite have the same cachet as "GLOCK IS TEH BESTEST EVAH EVER1 ELSE IS TEH SUCK," although it does have the virtue of being true.

Do you own anything else besides a Glock?

Yep, I also like M&Ps. I like XDs, but don't own any anymore. And I like DA revolvers.

Come to think of it the exclusivity is probably part of it, too, since I say the same thing about all of those guns as I say about the Glocks.

Although I guess with the M&Ps I also add that they're less expensive.

I can say I wasn't a fan of them. But then one day at the range an individual was really struggling with his, and asked if I would shoot it a bit and see if it was the gun, or him. I have to say, i was surprised by just how well it shot for me. Didn't actually feel that bad. IMO it'll never win any beauty contest in my book. but function is a beauty all it's own.

I had to sadly return it to him with the comment - sorry bud. it's not the gun.

I like some others above am not a fan of Glocks. Not because I dislike them but because they're not right FOR ME.

That said, Glocks are right for many. They make a good gun. I just don't like the feel nor the looks.

I have nothing against those that are the opposite, and who Glocks fit, and are the right gun. And who are sane and respectful of others.

I do have something against the fanboys and fan girls as they're annoying. As said by others, the Glocks are the best, Glock is the only choice, belittling those who don't own a Glock, and/or anyone even considering something else is what makes someone a fanboy/girl IMHO. To me it's just immature and annoying.

I guess I'd rather hear useful advice, not someone who is acting similar to a Glock salesperson!

After 26+ years carrying one model of 1911 or other, both on duty as a deputy sheriff and after I retired running my own firearms training business, I now carry Glocks. The reason is arthritis in my shooting hand. The frame of the 1911 pounds the swollen knuckle of my right hand and in only a magazine or two I think more about how much it hurts than trigger control. Glocks, particularly the large framed ones are very comfortable in the hand, partly because of the width and partly because the plastic acts as a giant recoil buffer.

My daily carry is a Gen 4 G30S. Yea, I had to build it from parts but that's one advantage with Glocks. Nothing is hand fitted. You just plug stuff in and put parts together. I took the frame from the G4 G30 I had and put a G36 slide and barrel on it. Works flawlessly. Then just to see if it would work I put the G4 G30 slide and barrel on the G36 frame. Ended up with the softest shooting G36 ever. Both these guns are stone cold reliable. Go figure. It is nice to be able to do everything I need in the way of repairs or replacement parts on the Glocks without resorting to a gunsmith. I used to keep one on retainer (or at least it seemed that way) when I shot 1911s.

The thing is, Glocks have no soul. My 1911s had history and character. My other love, revolvers have history and character. And, both 1911s and revolvers can be beautiful. Glocks, not so much. They are service weapons, not match weapons. They work about as reliably as a mechanical device can, but they are ugly beyond belief. Oh yea, and their trigger pull sucks. (smile)

Glocks are good guns.

Loud, uninformed buffoons own every type of gun made, but it sometimes seems that Glock has more than its fair share.

I like my cheap & inexpensive, ugly and outdated but trusted Glocks...
However, the new generation striker fired polymer pistols like FN 509 and CZ P10C
are getting my attention more and more. So far I prefer my p229.

I don't ridicule Glock owners. I ridicule Glock owners who think the best firearm is Glock. There are far too many people who think Glocks are perfect for everyone and no one else's opinion matters. Just watch that loudmouth wannabe operator James Yeager who thinks the only firearm that should exist is a Glock 19.

I have fired Glocks. Many of them across their "Generations" of "Perfection." Everything from 22, 23, 30, 30s, 42, 43, 19, 17, 21. And I was not impressed with any of them enough to own any of them.

I started out shooting revolvers, and still enjoy them the most. That being said, I do carry a Glock 43 because of it's size and caliber. It's accurate beyond defensive range, but just not that much fun to shoot. I recently sold a 19 because it just didn't interest me. Don't have anything against them, they're just not for me.

Why do some people ridicule Glock enthusiasts?

Hang around them long enough... You have the pushers "They shoot themselves" or "Why didn't you just buy a glock" or "buy a glock"
You get the obnoxious "You wasted your money" "Why'd you buy a range toy" "your funeral" "all guns are junk but glock"
You get the convinced "My gun only has 3 moving parts" "I can buy parts on a street corners" "It'll never break" "all cops own glocks"

I guess some folks just don't like being talked down to.

I'm sure they are great guns, but for me, I just can't get past the look. I am not a gun snob, but I have to like the way my guns look, , as well as the performance, and Glock's just don't do it for me....

I don't hate glocks. There are just more economical options out there that are just as good. And that right there is when the "fanboys" come in and say that there can't be anything cheaper than a glock that is as good.

If I ever have the opportunity to buy a G19/17 for $399 or less I'll probably bite. Until then, for what they are, I'll pass.

I own a Glock 34 and used it for shooting IDPA. I still have it. I also own 4 model 1911s, and
a bunch of other stuff as well. I'm still looking for the perfect hand gun.

Got a G20.4. Upgraded the barrel so I could shoot 'hot' coated bullets. Upgraded the trigger to an Overwatch, bloody fantastic in comparison to the original. Upgraded the sights to Sevigny's, another bloody fantastic upgrade. I have a $1,000 Glock shoots mediocre groups and feels like I'm holding a 2x4 at the wrong angle, and it digests everything I can throw at it. Got exactly what I paid for.

Virtually no experience with 1911s, my Marine son hands me his commemorative Kimber in 45.

"Oh, that's how a gun is supposed to handle and shoot...". That 5 minutes is going to cost me a LOT of money :)

Glocks are a good pistol. I do tire of the fan boys who never stop pushing them though. I think the worse are the new shooters who are ignorant of other firearms and so buy into too much of the hype. Many things which Glock is credited for are not really theirs (not the first "wonder nine", nor the first striker fired, nor the first polymer pistol, etc).

The Glock is what it is. Some love it some don't.

Like you, 303 hunter, I started out shooting revolvers (over 50 years ago for me) and still enjoy them the most. And sort of like you, I tried very hard to like the Glock 43 I bought for concealed carry. It was reliable, and as you said, "accurate beyond defensive range." But talk about "not that much fun to shoot" - the danged thing hurt me every time it went off. It hammered my trigger finger and my 69 year old arthritic wrist. I developed one heck of a flinch before I gave up trying to like that little gun, and at the recommendation of my daughter, I traded my Glock 43 for a Smith M&P 9 Shield like hers. The Shield is just a little bit bigger, and just an ounce heavier, but to me, there's a world of difference in how easy it shoots. And it's just as reliable and accurate as the Glock 43 that beat me up.
On the other hand, my wife absolutely loves her Glock 42. It's reliable and accurate too, and I'm not about to try to talk her into something else for concealed carry.
So I'm not bashing Glocks at all. All I'm saying is that little Glock 43 hurt me when I shot it. A larger Glock might work fine for me, but I'm just not interested enough in Glocks to find out - I already have larger handguns of other brands that work great for me.

No disrespect intended, but this is what I see coming from a lot of the Glock guys. Walther (all of 'em), H&K (VP-9/40), SIG (P-320) and now S&W (with the M&P 2.0) have now produced polymer-framed striker-fired pistols that are substantially superior in terms of ergonomics, more accurate, just as reliable and have better triggers, not to mention, much clearer and more durable (not to mention great factory nightsights) sights, than current Glock offerings ... and yet the Glock guys can only respond with "haters" and "copycats."

All-righty, then ...
