Conceal carry etiquette in someone's home

^^Spot on. Declaring your home a gun free zone by hanging a sign (in my state) has no force of law. If you ask me to leave and I refuse then I can be arrested for trespassing but that doesn't require that I have a gun, you may just ask me to leave because I carry a condom in my pocket.
If you don't feel safe around legal gun owners then exactly who do you feel safe around?

"advocate" = never.

If you EVER read my post about advocating the carrying of an illegal gun ---- PLEASE either post that or retract it !.

That is an outright lie and you should be taken to task for that.

I did say that the possession of a 'possibly' questionable legal gun,was one that saved my bacon.

That has NOTHING to do with promoting lawbreakers.

And you might try to recall that none of us were born with a badge,we all had to live and survive for a 'few' decades prior to making that choice.

AND it just 'might' have tainted me in a direction that allowed another to bend a law and save their life.

the strongest powers an LEO has is that of DISCRETION, or the ability to NOT make an arrest.

scaatylobo I have a question for you

Business access to homes !!!

I see going into a strangers house armed is "possibly" violating that persons RIGHT to a gun free zone !.

They might have religious cause,or just be deathly afraid of guns [ that is sad,but possible ].

If you do not ASK for permission to enter, then I see your more in violation of that persons RIGHTS --- than you are when visiting a friend that actually might [ should ? ] know your armed.

Carry that to the next step = do you need to announce that wherever you go,you need a town crier to walk ahead and announce your walking that way ----- and are armed ?.

After all , you "could" be violating anothers gun free zone.

My rule is ALWAYS the same,if there is no magnetometer at the door ----- I am not armed !.

Do you ask before entering if you possess a pocket knife?

.

@ warp

PLEASE do not misunderstand me.

I am of the FIRM opinion that anyone that is INVITED into my home - or must enter to do service,is armed as I am !.

I respect their RIGHT to self defense and ponder any who forego that RIGHT.

So,if you don't have at the VERY least a pocket knife = your not considered normal by me !.

What about someone who you know has an issue with guns - would you carry unless asked not to, or leave it locked in the car outside?

Here we are bound by law to take care that the gun doesn't fall to anyone else's hands and leaving it in a car would be unlawful. The gun must be either on self or in safe location at home. So that leaves you with deciding to either have the gun back home or carry all the way. For me then the decision is more about the time and place rather than etiquette. Of course I don't advertise it, but if asked directly, I wouldn't lie about it.

Don't ask, Don't tell?

I agree with this in general. However there is a state or two that require you to get the owners permission. I've had a couple glasses of wine so I'm not going to look it up right now but I believe it was a southern state as I no longer go anywhere in the North, especially the North East.

Only a Jack Daniels so I can still manage. Alaska, Arkansas, Louisiana and South Carolina require you to ask the home owners permission to enter while carrying.
