July 2008 Rimfire Match

Took the 10/22 out today. Best score I could manage was a 66 :( and that was only because I hit the center of the smallest dot.

Tomorrow I take out the marlin bolt gun. I've got a lot more trigger time behind that one.

I'm using the Remington bulk pack ammo. I could definitely hear the difference in powder levels between some shots.

Well, I am hoping to get out again tomorrow or tuesday with no fewer than three rifles, 4 types of ammo, and an abacus... :neener:

Remington 597 semi scoped
Glenfield 25 bolt scoped
Remington Five bolt

With any kind of luck, next month I'll have another semi... :D But that Marlin 925 keeps calling my name too... decisions... decisions... :scrutiny::confused::what:

K5Mitch: Nothing shameful about a 66 with a 10/22 and bulk ammo. The important thing is you're out there getting trigger time, learning and hopefully having fun. With any luck we might even improve.

As a side note it takes a lot more courage to submit a target that probably isn't competitive in the division but is the best you could do on that day. All of us have had those days and none of us was enthusiastic about posting the result but I think I can speak for a vast majority when I say that everyone who submits a target deserves respect and congratulations for their efforts. It also gives you a baseline to improve on.

I'm glad you got out there and joined in the fun. Good job.

Mo

OK, my first target is kinda dismal. I promise to do another one (or ten!) to improve my score. This rifle was built for hunting and shoots any ammo decent, good ammo really well. I just dont have any right now.

And now to uphold the family name...... My eleven year old (thats right, 11), DAUGHTER shooting the same gun and ammo still at the same 50 yds! As you can imagine, my chest is rather large right now and I will have to take a few minutes to enjoy this before contiuing to shoot. Anyway, get those kids and wives out there and have some fun. You may be suprised!

Now where did he throw that gauntlet????

.

lil' Ms. Xringonly is a natural! WOW! Now that bar is looking mighty high! Very Cool!

I should probably have added a bonus to your score for getting her out there Xring.

RancidSumo, I'm always open to suggestions. If you have a favorite target and a way to make it interesting, easy to score, challenging and fun let me know.

Hey Rancid, that's a good site. Just bookmarked it.

However, and I'm not trying to be argumentative, but except for placement on the page, the Know Your Limits target doesn't seem to be a hole lot (pun intended... get it while you can) different from the one we're shooting for the July match. Just some circles are white instead of black, and you shoot left to right instead of top to bottom.

Are you shooting open sights?

Made it out to the range this morning. CZ 452 shot from the bench, 50 meters, with a tac 65 suppressor, Leupold scope, CCI Standard Velocity. It is hard to see in the picture but I pulled the 5th shot on the second target low and right. I shot 4 columns, this was my best one.

If I'm doing the math right it comes out to a 176.

I shot one standing with open sights at about 20 yards. I'm too embarrassed to post that one, but it was a nice wake up call to get off the bench and start practicing more.

OK... I'm off to the range this evening... will report any findings... taking the two Remmy's... the Five and the 597...

5 - 5 - 3 - 1 - 1 ---- Right!?!?!?

LOL

RancidSumo, You are talking the "know your limits" target correct?

I like it but it might make it tough on the iron sight shooters. Maybe we could devise a target using that or a similar format. I'm sure we can come up with something even better with help from those visiting this contest thread.

Waterhouse: GREAT shooting! You are our new Scoped Bolt division leader.

Xringonly: I'm inclined to award you the Overall Match winner regardless of your score if you manage to get three women to the range and shooting the match. Bravo dude! Sounds like you're raising those kids proper.

Schleprok62: Go git em!

Well... got out last weekend and tried my hand at 25 yards with iron sights. Whew!!! That little dot is hard to see... come to think of it, all of them are LOL!

Did okay, but shot the wrong dots more than once:D. I'll be trying again. Gotta get more ammo.:what:

Finally got a day with no wind to speak of.

Rifle: Remington 540X
Scope: Weaver KT-16
Ammo: Wolf Match Extra
Temp: 72 degrees
Wind: none.
Range : 50 yards
Score: Purty good for an old f**t.

I've got some of these targets printed out for tomorrow's range trip. Also have some new rifles to try on them. Should have an entry or two if everything goes well. :)
