im too broke for 6 boxes of store bought ammo (i cant reload 22lr though) but if i do buy a 22lr bolt gun i guess i wouldnt mind puttin back a few thousand for it

everyone's using bulk ammo? What happened to all the 5 shot groups 1 whole pictures I used to see?

I'm going to do a few attempts with some federal match ammo, I got like half a brick of that left and then I'm going to so some with Federal 525 bulk, winchester 333 bulk and winchester xpert bulk.

I might do both iron's and scope too, i'll see why my cz 452 lux really has - just need to wait to Friday to start.

I did a bit of work fro a friend, and used the money to get 10 boxes of .22...

.17 hmr fare game for this?
Yes, although i am not sure if it should be done at a farther range. (due to the high accuracy of the ammo and guns that are chambered in that round) Anyone else have a opinion?

i think if they wanna spend 14 dollars/50rds ill call it good..its rimfire right:evil:

so you have used 4 boxes already!!?? how long did that take:eek:

not that i care but i think 22 is at a disadvantage going up against .17hmr just my opinion

1858rem - Haha, no i forgot to mention that was a flyer from another target i was shooting at to the left of it. I used 10x i think.

One spikes .22lr upper for my AR, one walther P22, and a few friends coming over two saturdays ago:D
About 3 months. I shoot quite a bit, as my range is on my front yard. (i live on a farm) I must have fired something like 10k rounds through the savage, it is suprising that the barrel is still so accurate. (long live savage!!!!:D)

not that i care but i think 22 is at a disadvantage going up against .17hmr just my opinion
Hence my asking if they should have to shoot a longer range....

i dunno, how much does a 17hmr get pushed in wind compared to 22lr?

i think 22lr with plain lead bullets should last around 250,000-500,000 before they get shot out.....thats what im mostly looking for, a rifle between 20 years and bairly used, where someone thinks its got a bad barrel or is shot out, since most likely its is only badly leaded

i coulda gotten a S&W .38 cheap if i didnt point that (bad leading) out first:D:banghead:

i dunno, how much does a 17hmr get pushed in wind compared to 22lr?
Quite a bit less, due to the higher BCs, and much higher velocity than standard .22lr loads.

I tend to try and beat up my guns, and i have borrowed this thing to my brother, he says he tested some handMADE ammo, with centerfire primers in them!!! (PM me if you want to hear about that....:D) So, this thing could be way wore out in comparison to others....i don't know though. If they do last that long, hey!, awesome, i will be able to compete for along while:D

im gonna try for a good target today but is is pretty windy.....i have no idea what 5 or 10 or 15mph looks like but id say its a fair bit, im thinkin ill put up a wind flag next to the target and wait till it drops to shoot;)

The rules were .22 cal, a .17 has a big advantage. I'd recommend a seperate class or longer range for them. But that could get out of hand for a fun shoot. Never mind.

I'll kick any .17hmr's a$$ with my .22lr, and it's iron sights. Thats not arrogance it confidence! Iron to iron I'll whip it.

it has been too windy or rainy here this week...im off work tomorrow so ill give it a shot, i got my F1 chrony yesterday..which only took midway 2 days to ship....and with standard shipping too!

ill chrono my shots ant maybe have a good excuse for missing lol

with bulk rem ammo outta five shots i had 2 chrono 1180 one at 1175 and one at 1075 one did not trip the sensor, so if i hit low..its because of the ammo...if i hit left or right its the winds fault lol!

id like to see what these guys can do with the 17 HMR, if they want to post an show off pics thats cool, but not really be in the comp....sound good?

It's been windy here for a week now, got tired of waiting. 27 points right? Not bad I guess, I'll give it another go next time around, that was pretty fun!

Ruger 10/22, aftermarket barrel, stock and internals.
3-16X Barska scope
Remington Target .22lr
Bench rest, sand bag up front, rabbit ear bag in the back.
25 yards, target scaled to half size (no room to shoot 50 yards)
outdoors, 45 degrees, 5 mile an hour wind with 10 to 15 mph gusts :cuss:

I like when I'm a split second from pulling the trigger and the wind gusts up... makes things more fun. I think I"m the first person ever to stalk a paper target!!

What's the final decision on .17 HMR? I'd like to give that one a try as well.

Obviously, as several have said, they shouldn't be in the same category as .22, it's a different beast altogether. So why not just pit .17 vs .17 scoped and iron just like the .22's? It'll make the final scoring a little longer, but that's ok because gotime242 is doing the work not us! :)

(I stocked up with a bunch of .17 HMR when the price was only $7.00 per 50. :neener: )

I like the idea of a seperate class for the .17's.

I just got my new scope on, and mounted, but now it is raining:cuss: I'll see if i can get a better score soon.

This is my best for now.

Here you all go, gvnwst called me out so I had to go shooting no matter what the conditions.LOL

Rifle- Remington 540XR Target
Sights- Redfield Palma rear, Redfield Olympic front
Ammo- Eley Club
Position- tailgate of my Ford Ranger
Distance-25 yards
Conditions- High 38 deg, windchill 28 deg, humidity 45%, Dew point 18, Gust SE 24mph, Sunny as H*ll.
Score- 45 edit score 50 points

It was windy and cold out today and I couldn't tell the last dot from the squares around it. That is why on one of them I shot the square.lol. My eyes were watering so bad I would have to close them look away then look into the sights repeatedly. It was to bright out, very bad shooting conditions.
I may mount a scope on my rifle and try to do some shooting Wednesday. I also may bring out the Winchester 75 Target and see how it does.:D It sure seemed more windy than what I posted but that is what the weather bug says it was in my area. It is supposed to be on a reagular piece of paper right? I also just got laid of so I have plenty of time to shoot. Here is a picture of my target.

Just a quick note: If a .17 hmr was shooting today He wouldn't of been able to stay on the paper.:p

Clint, are you sure you aren't short changing yourself? That looks like a score of 50, not 45.

First column = 15 (touching the black gets the score)
Second column = 10
Third column = 15, with all 5 completely inside the black so you get a bonus of 10
Total = 50

That is very good shooting considering the conditions and using iron sights.

The part about a .17 being more susceptible to winds than a .22 LR is more rumor than fact, I feel. The .17 has a much higher BC, a smaller surface area, and obviously a much higher velocity. The last factor is very important since it is the time in flight that matters a lot when it comes to wind deflection. The shorter time the bullet is in the wind, the less it will be moved laterally by the wind.
