Hmmm, pretty mixed ayes and nays so far...but all the "moderates" are going aye. So it will probably pass, just with fewer votes this time.

There is a good chance it will go away in conference committee, especially if the vote is close. I hope :(

The reason this amendment was allowed is because Frist was in favor of it and voted for it.

And the reason he was in favor is because without a token concession to the other side, enough moderates would probably have opted out that passage would have become a very arduous proposition.

No real damage done if this passes (which it will), pretty much every new gun (pistols, rifles and shotguns) come with them already in the box. Throws a bone to the moderates to support the overall bill.

(I have several, for sale, if anyone is interested.)

It was cited a number of times that a majority (60%) of gun owners were in favor of the trigger lock requirement. That's enough to include lots of gun owners that don't have clue and ignores that 40% against is a very significant number. But it makes a fine excuse..

Could be or it could be that Frist wasn't going to get 60 votes for cloture without supporting the bill. No way for me to know.

My ruger came with one.

What about Milsurp, does the law only apply to NIB guns? Ide like to get a 130$ makarov without an exytra 30$ lock, becuase you know theyt are gonna wayyyyy overprice the locks, and they will give you the crappiest they can find too. Buit if your already paying 600$ it doesnt make to much a difference.

It does apply to milsurps.

EDIT: Or maybe it doesn't. There is no text on thomas.

Just in case any of you think you can't make a difference, please note that the five pro-gun Senators we got elected from our list in 2004 have all voted no so far (Coburn, Isaakson, Martinez, - no votes on the other two).

Looks like it passed.

No big deal IF this is all the passes.

And it looks like Craig will block all other amendments except the two from Frist.

In my state, the cops give them away. I can go into the police station and request locks. Then the locks are given to me.

I don't think there's a limit on how many you can get, either. They have boxes of them.

I hope you guys are right, but I won't be reassured until I see the text. It's not on Thomas and I doubt more than a couple of our esteemed congresscritters read it either. Anyway I'm out of here for now, I have a groupbuy payment that needs sent out (the parts kit will not be coming with a trigger lock, I hope it doesn't kill any children :uhoh: )

Vote on Kohl amendment to S.397, to mandate a child safety lock be sold with every handgun passes.

Yea: 70

Nay: 30

Kurush, Santorum voted for this amendment last time this lawsuit immunity thing was up for consideration too. I remember because it kind of surprised me. Either way, PA already does this. I agree with the sentiment of throwing a bone to the moderates to get this bill through. After that, we can all throw the locks away. I just hope we don't have to purchase them. The text of last year's amendment says "provided," so hopefully that will still be the case.

Well, I'll be back in an hour or hour and a half. Stuff that needs doin' always needs doin' when I don't wanna do it. :(
