On to Reed from Rhode Island.... Ohhh he said "DC sniper"

Edit: aperently we're liable for stolen arms

Anndd.. i didn't know the DC snipers used an automatic weapon :what:
...according to jack reed anyway

How do these guys look at themselves in the mirror knowing that they are spewing these lies? How do people vote for these liars?

Sawdust

Yes, the lies keep coming. Bullseye "supplied" the sniper weapon and there was no way it could have been stolen by the person who admitted to the police that he did indeed steal it. I wish they could at least come up with something original. What bothers me is that there is no rebuttal at all and no mention of the real court cases in question, i.e. the "discovery" type proceedings that blankets the industry.

Now he is complaining that he won't get to offer his amendments and doesn't understand why. Poor man, up against a stacked deck.

Cloture motion submitted for Friday vote.

And Frist said he would offer an amendment to the bill.

I too will be working

Real hard to Dump Durbin in 2008. My only regret is that we have to wait that long.

I think to 'fill the tree'.

Or basically offer a bunch of meaningless amendments to take up time.

They have to be germane to the bill itself if cloture passes.

Frist offered an amendment to the bill and the a second degree amendment to that amendment. Not real sure what happened as I am not an expert on Senate procedure; but this is the same thing that needs to happen for Frist to "fill the tree".

When that happens, it basically says that no amendments may be offered to the bill without the approval of the Senate Majority leader. So if that is what just happened, that is the good news. The bad news is it usually irritates the Senate and may cause some of the 67 current co-sponsors to bail, which could cause problems getting cloture.... but if Craig is right and they now have 67 co-sponsors, then cloture is pretty likely.

Assuming this bad boy passes, how long do you suppose it will take before the Brady Center (or someone else) tries for judicial intervention? Assuming it goes to the SCOTUS, what are the odds they'd rule in our favor?

So did the vote for cloture pass or just the vote to consider the bill? This is hard to keep up with everything.

BTW, Craig is up explaining what the bill will and will not do.

I thought you could only use assault weapons to spray bullets from the hip and kill children, or is that only when you're shooting at an airplane from a mile away

The motion for cloture has been moved to Friday; but assuming Frist did what I think he did, he has complete control over what amendments can be offered. Basically he can allow certain amendments and blow off others until he gets 60 Senators who are willing to buy into the whole deal and pass a cloture vote.

Last time they tried this, the whole bill failed after the cloture vote was unsuccessful; but with 67 co-sponsors it might work.

LAR are you sure? It sounded like Frist said cloture would mature on Friday morning at 1 AM. I probably misunderstand things, but it sounded like they would vote on the bill itself Friday.

OK I see, they will debate only this until Friday morning, then vote for cloture, and then after that vote on the bill itself. Will there be more debate after the vote for cloture or will they then proceed to a vote on the bill itself?

I thought you could only use assault weapons to spray bullets from the hip and kill children, or is that only when you're shooting at an airplane from a mile away

Actually Reed didn't even bother calling it an 'assault weapon' - he came right out and said 'automatic weapon' :banghead:

Larry Craig

Larry Craig for President ! I think the video/audio from his speech on S. 397 right now should be used on future gun-banning legislation. Instead of having long winded debates, just play Senator Craig's debate.
