What would they be? I love doing threads like these. At least I can dream. :D

They can't be anything ridiculous like a minigun. Five normal guns that most people can actually get some day preferably.

My dream five would be:

1. H-S Precision HTR (.308)
2. Les Baer SRP
3. Tromix Saiga 12
4. FN SCAR 17
5. LaRue Tactical OBR (5.56)

That was a really hard list to come up with but I feel pretty satisfied with my choices. These are a little on the unrealistic side but if I ever hit the lotto you guys will know what I have in my bank vault I'll be purchasing before I buy these :D.

My realistic five are:

1. CZ 75 (9mm)
2. Remington 700 SPS (.308)
3. Remington 870 (12 gauge)
4. Colt AR-15
5. Ruger 10/22 (pre panic ammo prices)

What are your choices?

Here I thought the recent-but-dead thread was revived....only to find out its "5 Guns, take Umpteen"

For the thread to be realistic, there should be a reason stated as to why only 5 (law, finances, starting out, rebuilding after loss, etc)

I also find it interesting how many people list guns they've never even seen, much less shot.

Carry on.

Cz Combo gun(shot gun with rifle),Wilson Combat LE Tactical pistol,Browning Automatic Rifle,New version of the mini-gun,tommy gun

1) Les Baer SRP, hardchromed
2) Remington 700 Varmint .308, restocked, Jewell trigger
3) CZ 455 with .22lr, .22WMR, and .17HMR bbls
4) S&W M&P 15 Sport
5) Glock 23 with 9mm conversion barrel and .357Sig barrel

Those five would allow me to shoot a large variety of ammo in commonly encountered chamberings, take pretty much any game I'm likely to find in the lower 48, and give me flexibility in tactics. Conspicuously absent is a shotty - but I could defend myself and keep meat on the grill with these, and they are all currently in my safe.

Of course, my selections could change depending on the circumstances that limit me to five. If I had to carry them any distance, #2 could easily swap for a CZ 527 in .223 - that .308 is a heavy beast....

I agree. You posted this as I was slowly typing my list.

Geez, this was supposed to be a fun thread. I've never shot them but I sure as heck know they're some of the best you can get. What's wrong with wanting them? You're going to tell me that there is no gun that you want that you've never shot?

The reason I said 5 is because it's more challenging and I would rather have 5 amazing guns with a purpose than 20 decent guns that I never shoot half of. Most people really don't need more than 5 guns, they just want more than 5 guns. The five that I chose cover all my bases.

HS Precision knowingly associated themselves with Lon Horiuchi: http://www.gunnuts.net/2008/11/26/boycot-hs-precision/

If you don't know the name: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lon_Horiuchi
I apologize, I've heard about that but I forgot. I just choose them because I heard they were some of the best. The FBI used them, and the Marines and Army use them, so I figured they must be doing something right. If I had to swap them out I would probably go with McMillan.

Or you could just get the gun you want. The reasoning behind boycotting that company seems pretty ridiculous to me.

List:
1) Smith & Wesson Safety Hammerless
2) Winchester 1886
3) Winchester 1897
4) Cimarron Type II Conversion
5) Remington Rolling Block

H-S Precision HTR (.308)
2. Les Baer SRP
3. Tromix Saiga 12
4. FN SCAR 17
5. LaRue Tactical OBR (5.56)

now, what to do with the other 30+ guns ?

I was raised with guns both for shooting and collecting. I have been slowly getting rid of my father's and my collection for three years. Because of his and my health and financial issues I have been trying to find the "only after I die" guns to keep for enjoyment. It is one of the hardest choices I have ever made. I don't think I could ever get down to 5/6 or a dozen guns. It is not often that I don't regret selling one of our guns. I know I will have to continue due to the upkeep that even those safe queens require. The six guns I do have on the list to keep are.

1. Browning takedown .22
2. Browning High power
3. Browning Superposed 12
4. Colt Peacemaker .38spl
5. Ruger 10-22 international
6. Colt 1911 Goldcup NRA 125 anniversary

Thinking on this list there are at least 30 other guns that I can't part with. A more realistic number for me will probably end up being around 200 most of these made before 1970 some before 1920 and a couple before 1900 All currently being shot . :D

We won't even get into the custom and antique knives.

Cheers,

ts

The ones I pick need to fit the things I like to do such as plink, break clays, defend myself, and hunt. I doubt five would really do all that I like to do but it would likely do most of it. Below is a list.

1. Glock 30 45 ACP (self defense)
2. Mossberg 500 (self defense and break clays)
3. Marlin 30-30 lever action (hunt)
4. a 22 LR rifle for plinking and squirels I'd likely go with Ruger 10-22
5. I will leave it blank for future expansion

1. Chauchat Machine Gun
2. The Liberator
2. .380 Bryco
3. .25 Raven
4. .22 Jennings Jammer

...just kidding

he he

Nice choices everyone. Maybe I should have made it 10 guns but I just figure 5 isn't too bad, especially to people that don't have experience with guns. To some people 5 is excessive lol. If you guys want to add a few more then by all means. Some that I really wanted to add are:

1. Arsenal AK-47
2. Sig P226 (9mm)
3. Colt Python
4. Marlin Guide Gun (.45-70)
5. M1 Garand

There's about a million other guns I want, but those are up there. The .45-70 would be for brown bears and very large game in case I'm ever in the mountains or something. I would be a little nervous having only a 30-06 against brown bears, but a full clip of Garand would probably be enough.

All of us I know have more than 5 and most have more than 10. You would need to make the question - the top 25 or 30. (LOL)

If I could only have 5, I'd quit shooting.

Jim

Only 5 huh?

Dream Team (what I got or have had that works as well)

S&W Registered Magnum (586)
Browning Superposed (Citori Upland)
Winchester 95 (94 Trapper)
Springfield 1922 M2 (Win 52)
Colt Commander Gold Cup (Commander)

I could easily come up with another list or twelve, but for now, the above would cover the bases needed covering for moi.

YMMV
