If You Could Only Have Five Guns ...

Only 5?

Based on what I feel that I need and to cover what I like to shoot:

1) Glock 23
EDC, HD, range etc +.22 conversion

If it were only 6 I would add a .22 pistol but with only 5 this
covers it.

2) Rem 700 in .260

I hunt nothing larger than deer and I shoot Silhouette. The .260 does both well.

3) Anschutz 1712 in a Pharr stock

This .22LR is nearly perfect for smallbore Silhouette and covers small game hunting, practice and plinking as well.

4) Rem 870 W 12ga

With a 28" ribbed barrel with Remchoke it covers bird hunting and clay targets. With a 20" cyl bore and rifle sights it covers deer and HD.

5) AR-15 Rock River NM A4

This AR covers conventional high power in the Service Rifle category. Removing the carry handle and attaching a varmint scope turns it into a passable varmint rifle. Attaching an ACOG or your favorite red dot makes it an effective fighting rifle.

This has already been covered, but here are my current top 5 - it's taken a while to put this group together:

1) .22 rifle (Ruger 10/22)
2) .223 AR style (currently a custom build)
3) 1911 (S&W 1911)
4) 12 gauge shotgun (Mossberg 835)
5) .30 caliber bolt action (S&W 30-06)

While I enjoy many other calibers of hand guns and long guns, the list above will likely remain my "minimum" list.

Blessings

Oh, and a High Road 10th anniversary neck knife. Hey, spend a buck - with only 5 guns you can afford it! :p :D

First, 5 guns is never enough. We use guns as tools for various purposes.

I own much more than 5 but if I had to narrow it down to 5 I would keep these:

1. My HK-91 in .308. This is an incredible battle rifle capable of reaching out to long distances.

2. My AR15 SP-1. Converted to CAR and runs 100%.

3. My Glock 20SF in 10mm (I reload) with .40, 9mm and .357SIG barrels. Another perfect weapon for woods or dark alleys. This handgun is always with me.

4. My Marlin 7000T .22 rifle. What a hoot to shoot.

5. My Glock 17 in 9mm. Everybody needs a wonder 9. .:D

This thread needs some photos!!

Oh..another option with the Glock 20 is this Upper from mech-tech that turns a pistol into a rifle. Another good choice in my opinion.

My dream battery would be:
Ed Brown .308
Les Baer AR, 20" .223 wylde, FF, 1:8, flat top
Anchutz .22LR bolt repeater
Custom built 1911
Nicest shotgun I can find that fits like a Mossberg 500

Now what I actually have:
Savage .308
AR I built on a S&W lower and Aero upper with Shaw barrel
Marlin .22LR bolt gun
Custom built 1911 (Yay for me! I scored a dream gun!)
Mossberg 500

I could realistically cover all my bases with a 5 gun battery, but with niche use and always needing a "loaner" or two, 5 would leave me a little short for anything but general use.

Since a receiver is serialized and consider a "gun," my list would be:
1. Completed AR lower with:
A. Complete 5.56 Upper and extra mags
B. Complete 9mm Upper and extra mags
C. .22lr Conversion Kit and and extra mags
D. SlideFire stock
2. Kel-Tec KSG
3. Kel-Tec PMR-30 and extra mags
4. Kel-Tec RFB
5. 1911 with
A. .45 acp barrel and extra mags
B. 9mm Conversion Kit and extra mags
C. .22lr Conversion Kit and and extra mags

I think I'd just go with my choices of WWII armament.

M1 Garand
M1 Carbine
1911A1
M1 Thompson
and finally
Bazooka (hey technically it is firearm)

Now with these 5 and sufficient ammo for all I'd be happy, not to mention well set up for the coming zombie apocalypse.

On a budget regarding my gun purchases (hey, I'm married...what can I say?), so I'll be realistic in my choices. I'd take the five light-on-the-wallet guns I currently own:

1. SKS
2. Mosin Nagant (M44)
3. Remington 1100 20-gauge
4. Browning SA-22 Takedown
5. H&R 929 "Sidekick" Revolver

Love the commie bloc rifles: larger calibers, simple designs, durable. The last 3 I inherited from my father...all great guns.
