The decline of 3006 (and any other cartridge) won't become critical unless the kind of soy milktoast that gets PTSD from just standing next to someone shooting an AR15 in 'full semi auto" becomes the baseline for new shooters.
Until then, it may decrease in popularity relative to some of the lighter recoiling platfoms out there, but I cannot see a world where it will not be commonly found on the shelf. It may fade from the top spot, but never into obscurity.
06 vs whatever - is the rifle version of 45 vs 9. And the discussions tend to devolve in the same way. At the end of the day, it will be economics and politics that will have the real effect on the cartridge (and all cartridges) far more than all other factors and competitive alternatives combined.
