Are you a rifleman or a cook?

Grab a box of your 39's favorite ammo and head to the range.

Mo and Mal,

Right on. The 'v' is a tie-breaker, but I respectfully assert not worth any additional points.

So a score of 90/15v beats a score of 90/10v, beats a score of 89/20v, and loses to a score of 91/0v.

Clear?

Hey Mo,

The weather in Virginia is supposed to be gorgeous this Sunday, as sunny and in the upper 50's. *yay*.

Hope to report in on Monday with iron and optics scores.

Do you have the measurements of the outer white of these targets. I want to make sure that what my puter printed out is correct. They look awfully small for old eyes and open sights. How do you submit scores, honor system and photos? Fred.

Mo, my targets are coming out smaller than those dimensions using the default settings (100% zoom, 8.5 X 11 paper). Did you change any print or Adobe settings?

I'm getting:
5 7/8"
2 13/16"
1 13/16"
1 11/32" (a little over 1 5/16")

Well, no matter what size the targets are, today was just too nice to pass up shooting the match. 42 deg, wind calm, sunny.

I don't think I did too bad considering I could barely see the targets for the 3rd and 4th stages since the front bead covered them up. They were pretty much a guess.

All were shot with a rest, sort-of. I forgot to bring my sand bag so I used my gloves on top of a 4X4 that was down at the range. Worked just fine. I used a Rig Eze-Scorer so the ones that might look doubtful on the paper were definitely touching the higher ring.

Stage 2: 22 ; 2V

I had the planets align this evening and actually got to the range with targets and the right gun. However, I was running short on time and forgot to shoot the final stage. I'll try again next week, but I'm putting these up just to bump the thread.

A beginner's effort

Hello highroaders! I hope you dont mind that I handicapped myself with my marlin 60. This was my second time ever shooting, and I throughouly enjoyed the competition.

All shots were taken standing unsupported in the offhand position with stock irons.

My talleys -
Stage 1 - 18
Stage 2 - 14V
Stage 3 - 0 :uhoh:
Stage 4 - 8V

Total - 40VV

Not even a cook. I am the peg-legged amputee drinking whiskey straight from the bottle.

I'm going out again this weekend with this rifle. I missed the target twice by moving my head when I took the shot. Another 10 points will put me right in the middle of the range for DM with iron sights.

Another attempt. Shot each stage several times and picked the best of each. That 4th stage is a tough one at that distance.

I must say, I haven't shot a 39A in a while and it was great fun to shoot one again. Mine was manufactured in 1982 and doesn't have the cross bolt safety. It needs a little work on accessories like a sling and such to make it passable as a field gun again, but I think I'll work on it a little. I had forgotten that the bolt falls out on the floor if you're not careful when you open it up.

Great shooting JohnMcl. A perfect score with 12v!. I'm putting a Jinx on you for the Irons though. I have a "john" doll and I'm sticking some pins in it. :)

Atticum, as long as you don't best us with that M60, no worries. ;) You need to try it again with the rifle rested.

The standings so far. One more day.

Irons
HuntAndFish 90 4v
MalH 85 6V
JohnMcl 66 5V

Glass
JohnMcl 100 12V

Marlin brother in arms class
Atticum 40 2v (model 60)

Thanks guys! Happy to be included. :D

I'm gonna squeeze in a late submission and go to the range again tonight. I've equipped the model 60 with some aperture sights and there's been a noticeable improvement!
