What guns for a American "Bond?"

I know it's been said, but I can't see an american super-spy carrying much anything other then a full sized 1911 in parkerized or black-teflon. Maye something along the lines of a USP compact possibly. Give him a decent IWB holster and a good belt and as many magazines as he can fit into an overcoat and set him loose on the streets of some foreign capital.
On second thought I guess you could go the Jason Bourne route, give him the same pistol, but leave some of the mags behind and pack a couple of hand grenades and a small fixed blade knife, with a smg or rifle laying in wait somewhere in a trainstation or the trunk of a car. But after all that, then where, oh where, does he put his Copenhagen?

The 'first'James Bond was played as an American, working for the CIA on American television... he packed a Colt Cobra.

Nothing says "standard issue Central Intelligence Agency" like a supressed Ruger Mk2 .22 target pistol... sure a Colt Commander in .45 has more punch, but only Americans carry the .45... kind of a dead giveaway, next to teh gov't issue sunglasses ala Felix Leiter. (As played by Jack Lord)

1) Sig 220

2) FN Five-seveN

3) Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Full Size Black Stainless

...in my opinion. :)

For an American Bond.....he would have started out back in the day with a SW snub of course....today, a Kahr MK9.

Remember, he can shoot you in the forehead at 50 yards while doing a summersault backflip and holding a Bottle of BUD. (no wimpy Martinis for our American Super Spy) So he doesnt need a 45. Too big.

from the oss days many americans carried a dick special in one of its variations, quite a few soe agents carried small webly .32's or h&r .38 s&w's. most real spies, that is intelligence officers, do most of their work unarmed.

Yes Bond is a very mild mannered and modest individual who simply detests 'flash'. Give him a big bowl of vanilla icecream and send him home to read a nice book with his wife of 26 years.

Very amusing. So I guess Bond should also ditch the dark suits and go for a colorful Hawaiian shirt and some jeans. Regardless of his cavalier approach to most things, he is a spy first and foremost which is why he is always outfitted with all the latest "spy" gear. Flash for Bond never came from his tools (which most cases were unassuming until deployed) but was rather a character trait.

The man identified himself BY NAME to damn near every bad guy he ever met...

An "American" Bond.

50-70's. Primary: S&W Model 19 with the 2.5" barrel with a Parkarized finish. In a shoulder holster.

Backup: S&W Centennial Airweight. In an ankle hoslter.

Power Up: S&W Model 27 with the 5" barrel and a Winchester Model 1912 "riot-gun" in the take-down configuration. A Winchester Model 70 in 30-06 for long range work and a Colt Woodsman "Hushpuppy" for quiet work.

I'm not concerned with the decades after this time period. Everything is too politically correct and the Libeerals would be breathing down his neck about using "inhumane" tactics.

And once faked his own death for a short period of time by putting his Playboy Club membership card in a dead hitman's pocket. :D

I maintain the theory that "James Bond" is just an alias that goes with the number 007, and that each actor (Connery, Moore, etc.) is in fact playing a completley different agent who, for some reason, all use the same name, perhaps just to screw with the intel guys who work for the various bad guy groups of the world.

Also possible that they do it because introducing yourself as "Wyndam-Pryce, Wesley Wyndam-Pryce" doesn't have quite the same effect on people.

Kinda like Thomas Magnum?? If that's the case, I believe he mostly worked unarmed but occasionally carried a 1911 mexican style SOB.

Come on folks, an American agent would have a certain panache, just as Bond does. Instead of a Bently or Austin-Martin, our man drives a Mustang. He favors fine bourbon, neat. He wears a suit just as easily as he wears jeans and a black leather jacket. And, in his Galco Jackass shoulder rig, he carries a Sig 239 9mm, for which he carries an extended barrel and suppressor. he carries the Sig eventhough he prefers his big gun, a Wilson custom 1911, like he carried in his Delta Force days. In a hidden compartment in his Mustang, he's got a tricked out M-4. And, when the situation calls for it, he reaches back for his cut down 12 gauge Remington 870. NOthing is more American than a sawed-off shotgun.:D

Cool topic... My $0.02?

He'd carry a 1911, chambered in .50 cal - like the Guncrafter Industries model No.1 :p Of course, custom-fitted with some type of uber sound suppressor. For backup, maybe a Dan Wesson or Nighthawk Customs compact 1911, maybe chambered in Super .38 for a little twist, or a H&K Mk23.. Being a hotshot spy, I'm sure he could afford some fancy tools

On occasion he'd use a totally ceramic gun, not detectable thru x-ray or whatever else the airlines decide to use. .22 that hits like a .44

He'd also need a Barrett .50 in the trunk of the Mustang for the long range "can you hear me now" moments.

J-frame all the way. And a 1911 for when he knows he is going into trouble. Doesn't get much more American than that.

Not to shift this too much into a movie discussion, but I think True Lies was better than any Bond movie. James Cameron had made some of my absolute favorite action movies. They always have just a small hint of fantasy mixed in with realism, great continuity, and excellent sequences (Model 101 on Harley vs. T1000 in Semi in T2 and Arnold vs. terrorists in Bathroom in True Lies are some good examples).

And I would imagine an American bond in a sig 9mm as well. The gun would have to be, above all else, sleek and sexy with a kind of elegance. Something big and powerful would just be out of place for a guy who spends the majority of the movie in a suit.

If he's truly a "secret" agent, how does he get through TSA screening with his toys (unless he's like "She Spies" - they never leave L.A. but don't pack)? Prob like the rest of us. Keep the toys in checked baggage and load up in the rest room after claiming bags. By the way........ Kahr in pocket holster. Remember he's a SECRET agent. He can't flash or print. Low key is the name of the game.

The original Bond was a suave spy - and a spy doesn't carry heavy weaponry. While I like the idea of a Colt 1903 for an American Bond, what he actually would have carried would probably have been a suppressed .22 Hi Standard - the OSS standard handgun.

As an american Bond he should use american made guns. In the early 60's a
J- frame or colt 3rd generation snubbie. Moving on into the 70's, the compact Detonics .45 would have been very cool. Most recently, a Kahr PM9 or MK40.
