Your Favorite Rifle

1. Favorite shooter: My most accurate gun... my Savage 93 (black syn stock with the SS heavy barrel in .17HMR). Quiet, accurate, doesnt scare the neighbors.

2. Favorite on aesthetics, history, uniqueness, other: Split between my SKS-M and late war Type 99 Arisaka with the original bayonet. I like the SKS because it's one of the very few SKS's that has a 30rd mag under it that works perfectly every single shot. The arisaka I like cause it's one of the less collected guns of WWII.

3. Caliber: 7.62x54R. Shoot an M44 Mosin Nagant chambered for it and tell me the fireball doesnt make you smile.

1. Browning SA22. It's light and handy, it takes down in a flash and this particular one shoots Winchester solids and Aguila SSS pretty good and CCI SubSonics real good.

2. Remington Model 81 in 35 Remington. It was born the same year I was and is in a lot better shape than I am! It's always fun to shoot and the quality of manufacture is top notch. No one builds 'em like that anymore!

3. 22WMR. More power than the LR. Lots of different loads from frangible to real FMJ.

On any given day these choices are subject to change on a whim. As in:

1. Springfield SOCOM.

2. 1892 Berthier Carbine, just got a load of 8mm Lebel brass from Grafs and I'm off to roam the Sahara. I'll shoot it on Bastille Day, too!

3. 30 Carbine. Think of it as the centerfire equivilant of the 22WMR.

or...well you get the picture! :D

Mine is the Remington 700 Classic in 222 Remington. It just shoots good. Byron

Good question. I had to think about this one.

1. My favorite shooter is probably my Marlin 1894PG .44 mag. Even with the stock sights I seem to be able to hit what I'm aiming at most of the time.

2. My favorite rifle for just handling and admiring is the boring old Winchester '94 carbine. John Browning was a genius.

3. I guess my favorite caliber is the .308 Winchester, though I'm not sure why. It's the first answer that popped into my head, so it must be my favorite.

Favorite in all 3 catagories: Marlin model 39A .22 LR.
However, if I was forced to choose just one rifle it would probably be my Marlin 1894C in .357 magnum, in my opinion a great general-purpose rifle to go along with my three .357 revolvers.

1. Shooter is no contest. The CZ 452 ZKM I bought way back when. Incredible tack driver, well balanced. Like a micro Mauser.

2. It changes, but right now it's the Swiss 1911 I picked up recently. It looks like some Jules Verne contraption with all the levers and rods, but shoots better than a modern clean line sniper rifle.

3. 7.62x54R is the one I keep coming back to. Tremendous versatility. Forgiving design. Long-lasting brass.

My Remington 700 LTR .223 would be my pick and for all 3 categories. Not going to win any aesthetics awards but the beauty for me is in the performance - simply the most accurate factory rifle I have ever owned or shot.

Hmmmmmm.....

M1 Garand, for sure, but would have a hard time leaving out the Finns M27 and M39, or the Type 38 Arisaka, or the Colt HBar, or the Armalite AR180B, ot the M1 carbines, or the Belgian FN 49.....ok, ok, I'm stopping now.

1. Favorite shooter: CZ 452 Lux in .22lr. I've fired tens of thousands of rounds thru it, and I've only just started to shoot it :). It's nice to shoulder a rifle and know you can hit anything you can see (at least, out to 50 yards). Honorable mention to my Rock River Arms National Match, which is a joy to shoot, but a pain to clean.

2. Favorite sentimentall: USGI M1 Garand (Greek return). This one is in great shape and didn't look like it had been fired since it was arsenal rebuilt way back when. Well, I fixed that! :D The Garand, while heavy, balances very well. Sights work great and since it's gas operated, I can shoot it without worrying about excessive recoil. When I did the re-assembly on it, a little lightbulb went off in my head as I realized that everything is an interconnected system. Every aspect of the Garand is interesting to me: shooting it, studying the design, and learning the history. Honorable mention to M39 Finn Mosin Nagant.

3. Favorite cartridge: .30-06 Springfield. I call it the "Goldilocks Cartridge" since it's not too big and not too small, but just right. In addition to my two Garands, I have a hunting rifle in .30-06 I used on my first hunting trip earlier this year. With a little luck and persistence (and a guide), I managed to harvest a wild boar with one shot. I know there are several other cartridges that offer similiar performance, but that one is my favorite. Honorable mention to 6.5x55 Swede, but I don't shoot it as much.

1. Favorite shooter: the rifle which you find to be the most entertaining to shoot out of your collection.

2. Favorite on aesthetics, history, uniqueness, other: Just a rifle you like in particular, but may not be a great shooter.

A german K98k in cal. 8x57IS

3. Caliber: Your favorite rifle caliber. Price is not a factor. You must have at least one gun chambered for it. Does not necessarily have to be a rifle caliber (pistol caliber carbines).

cal. 7.63x39 tracer

I'm going to cheat because I'm having a hard time deciding...I do live near Chicago, however, where voting multiple times is not only expected, it is required.

1. Favorite shooter: Fast becoming my new SA58 Para FAL...it seems to have just the right combination of power, size and ergonomics. It's big brother, my StG58A, used to be my favorite...oh, heck. I love my children all the same.

2. Favorite on aesthetics, history, uniqueness, other: That's a really hard one...it is either my 1939-manufactured SA Garand or my Pedersoli Sharps 1874 Billy Dixon model in .45-70

3. Caliber: Your favorite rifle caliber. In general, that would be 7.62 NATO. If I was left with just one caliber, that would be it. That said, I'm becoming enamored of 6.5x55mm...so much so that I'm very seriously planning to build up a nice, long range AR in 6.5 Grendel (essentially the same ballistics).

Favorite shooter: My 40X. I love shooting the gongs at 1000 yards. I love the 2 second delay between shot and hit.

Favorite esthetic - my Browning 1885 low wall

Favorite cartidge. Probably 308. Just so darn flexible and useful.
