I just finished shooting the match and am mailing the targets off today. Weather today was a slight balmy breeze and 72 degrees! (Yes, it's February 5th not May 5th.)
There were a few surprises while shooting namely how difficult shooting the "Bonus" round actually was. Funny how when you try to nick the corner you can't. The other surprise for me was the "John Wayne" target. I had shot about 4 benched targets and had a few good ones. So I says to myself might as well shoot the offhand one and be done with it. Trust me, I was expecting to create an entry for the bonus round. To my extreme surprise the very first one was pretty darn good! I tried one more, but it was no where near as good so I quit while I was ahead.
Frankly, I attribute my good "luck" to the excellent balance of the 39. I've shot off hand, of course, many times, but I usually have a hard time gettin all shots in a good group. (However, I shouldn't forget that it was 25 yards, not 50 or 100.)
I didn't use anything special to shoot the benched portion of the match. I didn't feel like schlepping the sandbags and front end rest assembly out to the field so I used my old Uncle Bud's "Bulls Bag" only. It worked just fine as always even though the name conjures up some old James Herriot stories.
Oh, and my wife is now missing a bunch of her return address labels that had little hearts on them.
